Job Description
Under general supervision, to operate a school van, transporting students safely and efficiently to and from school; to drive students to and from designated locations, to drive students to and from special events and to perform related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilites
Driving a van assigned transporting students as assigned, to and from school.
Maintaining the van and other vehicles in a clean and safe condition, such as cleaning, sweeping.
Maintaining good order among students on the van. Following District policies regarding the disciplining of students.
Fueling the vehicle.
Checking oil, fluid levels and safety equipment.
Providing special care and assistance as appropriate, if passengers are handicapped.
Keeping records of the operation of assigned vehicles as required by the District.
Administiring first aid to students.
Maintaining current knowledge of federal, state, city and District regulations applicable to the position.
Performing related work as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code, the California Education Code, and current city and District regulations applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transporting students and faculty.
Basic first aid
Simple record keeping
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures
Ability to
Maintain vehicles in a clean and safe condition.
Maintain simple records.
Monitor and control student passengers behavior.
Perform first aid, as needed.
Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Understand and carry out roal and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Training and Experience
Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License
