Job Description
The Outbound Shipping Supervisor is responsible for the direct oversight and execution of all outbound shipping operations. This role ensures the company’s distribution activities are efficient, accurate, cost-effective, and aligned with internal policies and external customer expectations. The supervisor drives day-to-day operational excellence, enforces safety and compliance standards, manages team performance, and leads continuous improvement efforts across the shipping function.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily outbound shipping operations to ensure accurate, on-time, and complete order fulfillment.
Lead and promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility by ensuring all team members follow regulatory and company safety policies consistently and fairly.
Oversee and enforce documentation, compliance, and training related to shipping processes and workplace instructions (WPIs) to ensure service levels are met effectively.
Drive innovation and critical thinking across strategic and tactical operations to improve performance and address evolving customer and business needs.
Explore, identify, and implement performance improvement and cost optimization opportunities within the shipping function.
Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including On-Time Delivery (OTD) delivery, fill rates, same-day shipments, shipping cost per unit, inventory accuracy, and labor productivity.
Conduct root cause analysis for logistics or transportation issues; implement corrective actions for customer complaints and service failures.
Ensure compliance with all carrier requirements and legal, quality, and safety standards in handling outbound shipments.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Production, Sales, Purchasing, and Quality to align shipping activities with business demands.
Ensure Health & Safety training and compliance activities are completed, maintained, and embedded into daily operations.
Coach, develop, and hold team members accountable through daily engagement, hands-on training, and structured feedback.
Build a flexible, cross-functional team capable of performing various tasks across the shipping and warehouse environment.
Define equipment, tools, and staffing needs to meet departmental goals and support operational readiness.
Maintain accurate inventory by ensuring proper handling, documentation, and verification of all outgoing materials.
Participate in special projects, continuous improvement events, and support strategic customer service initiatives.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate degree in a technical or vocational discipline preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field strongly preferred.
4–8 years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or distribution environment may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Required Skills and Competencies
Proficient in SAP Sales & Distribution modules.
Familiarity with Blue Yonder (Warehouse Management or Transportation Systems) preferred.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to lead teams, manage conflict, and develop talent.
Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills for operational issues and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong understanding of safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements in a warehouse/distribution setting.
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the warehouse.
Ability to lift and handle materials up to 25 lbs.
Occasional climbing, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Frequent use of hands for grasping, typing, and material handling.
Ability to navigate between warehouse and office settings as needed.
Work Environment
Exposure to warehouse conditions including temperature variations, material handling equipment, and operational noise.
Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
Must adhere to hygiene and cleanliness standards applicable to the distribution environment.

The U.S. base entry salary for this full-time position starts at $71,000. Compensation offered is dependent on the facts and circumstances of each opening. We take into consideration several factors, including, but not limited to, the minimum requirements outlined in the job ad, work experience, job knowledge, the position’s work location, and external market conditions when determining the final base pay / salary.
