What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Technician position at Bostica, LLC?
SUMMARY
Bostica is a licensed cannabis cultivation facility in Lynn, MA. We are locally family owned and comprised of a strong leadership with a passion for the plant and our people.
Ensures quality processed plant material meets the company’s quality standards through GAP and GMP. Performs quality inspections on final finished product and ensures accurate recordkeeping. Works in a team focused environment to complete daily processing tasks while maintaining compliance with all local and State regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list is not intended to be all inclusive)
Prepare plant for processing utilizing a variety of techniques and processes including;
- Machine assist and hand trim
- Defoliate, manicure, and cut plants
- Calculate and track daily green waste
- Process flowers off stem and stalk of plant to separate unusable waste from useable product; employee must track the amount of unusable waste for each batch
- Identifies and separates fan leaves, stems and sugar leaves on the flower
- Account for each by-product type processed off the flower
- Package and weigh product
- Must be adaptable to various cultivars, styles and types of cannabis which are trimmed; adjusting techniques to maintain a steady pace and quality
- Supervise, train and coach Processing Techs to reach and exceed company goals and quality
- Employee must be able to follow basic instructions and take constructive criticism from their managers to maintain quality standards and production goals
- Employee must show up on time for work every day ready to work with a positive and team focused attitude
- Employee must exhibit good personal hygiene and the health guidelines set forth by the company and local and State requirements
- Staff is responsible for clean-up and sanitation of all processing areas, floors, surfaces and equipment at the end of every task and shift
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to be flexible and work in various sectors of the department as needed an/or requested by their direct supervisor; this may include but is not limited to, helping cultivation staff with small tasks, cleaning and/or moving supplies and equipment and/or helping the packaging department or working at other locations as needed
- Must work well with others and ability to adapt quickly to changes in policy, procedure and technique. Frequent contact with supervisor via face-to-face discussions
- Use of independent judgment in regards to product processing, keeping quality, projections and goals in mind
- Help create a proactive and positive environment; a positive attitude and self-motivation to help produce high quality manicured product, while meeting and/or exceeding personal and/or company goals
- Ability to work with, help, guide, challenge and motivate other trim team members to create a cohesive unit
- Ability to research, evaluate and adapt to new methods, must meet or exceed goals, and/or modify technique/procedures
- Employee must be able to identify various problems with any cultivar/product and communicate with direct supervisors as necessary
- Must manage their time during work efficiently to meet goals while consistently producing quality product.
- Employee must be able to follow basic instructions and ability to take constructive criticism from their managers to maintain quality standards and production goals
- Other duties as assigned
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
- Must understand the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company and the Processing Department
- Must have a basic understanding of local and state medical cannabis laws, rules and regulations; a pursuit to further their understanding and knowledge of the industry and the laws is appreciated and commendable
- Fundamental knowledge, as well as the ability to be taught and guided in areas related to harvesting, drying, trimming and curing; initial focus on trimming with other areas being taught as the employee shows interest while still maintaining their capabilities as a processor
- Must be able to work well independently, as well as with others
- Skill in analyzing potential problems with a plant or the product being processed; “coded product”
- Shows self-motivation/innovation and the ability to work well with all members of their staff and the company, as well as with their direct supervisor
- Ability to listen well and communicate effectively various audiences, especially with the direct supervisors and other co-workers
- Ability to receive and follow direction
- Ability to use initiative and independent judgment appropriately while not overstepping chain of command
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees, upper management, and other departments
- Follows all company safety and security policies and procedures to ensure a safe and injury free work-zone.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, lifting, walking, standing, some bending/crouching, stooping, stretching, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time while maintaining focus
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and balance up to 50 pounds (100 pounds with assistance) and must be able to do so with extreme care and caution when working with plants and product
- Work is generally performed in a fast-paced medical cannabis cultivation location
Working Conditions
- Work is generally performed inside a climate-controlled processing building and an indoor cultivation facility. May require working within in a walk-in cooler/refrigerator
- Work is subject to weather conditions, including rain and hot or cold temperatures
- Involves frequent contact with varied levels of personnel, including vendors, visitors and staff
- Will require working rotating shifts with varied hours/day, including evenings weekends, holidays, and special events
- May eventually include working an alternative workweek
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
- High School Education or GED graduate; some college or college graduate preferred
- A minimum of 1 year experience in manufacturing or processing cannabis, flowers, and/or produce
- Experience working with a health and safety compliance program
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- At least 21 years old and pass a criminal background check
