Job Summary:
The Production Manager - Post-Harvest is responsible for overseeing and managing all post-harvest processes, ensuring high-quality cannabis products while maintaining compliance with state regulations and company standards. This role involves managing the drying, curing, trimming, packaging, and inventory processes while optimizing efficiency, minimizing waste, and maintaining product integrity.
Key Responsibilities:Post-Harvest Process Management:
- Oversee all post-harvest activities, including drying, curing, trimming, and packaging.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each post-harvest stage to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance.
- Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) to optimize drying and curing processes.
- Evaluate product quality at various stages and adjust processes to maintain premium standards.
Team Leadership & Training:
- Manage and lead a team of post-harvest staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Provide ongoing training on best practices, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Inventory & Compliance:
- Track and manage inventory accurately from harvest through to packaging using seed-to-sale software (e.g., Metrc, Dutchie).
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry and reporting to maintain compliance with all state and local cannabis regulations.
- Conduct regular audits to verify compliance and resolve any discrepancies.
Quality Control & Assurance:
- Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure finished products meet internal and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the Director of Cultivation to identify and address any issues related to product quality, safety, or compliance.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and address inefficiencies or process deviations.
Equipment Maintenance & Facility Oversight:
- Partner with the Facilities Technician to ensure all post-harvest equipment is properly maintained and calibrated for optimal performance.
- Monitor and enforce sanitation protocols to prevent contamination and maintain product safety.
- Identify and address operational challenges to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Analyze production data to identify trends, improve processes, and increase yield efficiency.
- Prepare and present production reports, highlighting key metrics, production output, and areas for improvement.
- Develop strategies to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and improve overall product quality.
Qualifications & Skills:Required:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in post-harvest cannabis operations or a related field (agriculture, food processing, etc.).
- Proven leadership experience managing teams in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong knowledge of cannabis post-harvest processes, including drying, curing, and trimming techniques.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements in the cannabis industry (state and local regulations).
- Proficiency with seed-to-sale tracking systems (Metrc preferred) and inventory management.
- Proficiency with cannabis inventory software such as Dutchie.
- Proficiency with Google and Microsoft suite of services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify areas for improvement.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, business management, or a related field.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in a highly regulated environment that requires strict adherence to policies and procedures.
- Must be able to work in environments with varying temperatures and humidity levels.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- May involve lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds.
