What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Office Specialist position at Boston Childrens Health Physicians LLP?
Seeking a Medical Office Specialist for BCHP's Pediatric Specialty office in Valhalla, NY. Pay rate will be $19/hr-$21/hr, negotiable based on experience. Bilinugal proficiency with English and Spanish is a plus. Schedule will be Monday- Friday 9:00am-5:00pm.
Essential Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
Job-Specific responsibilities
- Verify insurance benefits as it applies to the precertification process for medication prior authorizations
- Request, track, and obtain pre-certifications/pre-authorizations from insurance carriers for medications
- Advise patients/families of authorization status and regarding their financial obligation if any, when getting medications
- Notify patients/families and physicians of any medications requested that are not authorized by insurance
- Communicate any insurance changes and trends to the team
- Maintains a current working knowledge of authorization requirements for all payers, and of state and federal regulatory guidelines in respect to medications
- Answers phones and e-mails; takes detailed phone messages for physicians
- Schedule appointments and services for patients as needed
- Coordinate patient home care services with Home/Facilities/Medical Supply Vendors
- Call hospitals and other medical facilities to help schedule diagnostic testing appointments as needed
- Cross-Trained to cover for Biologics Coordinator and Enteral Nutrition Specialist.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1 years of Medical Office Experience – (prior authorization knowledge preferred)
- Excellent Interpersonal/Organizational and Phone skills
- Proficiency with computer and data entry
- Knowledge of EMR
- Bilingual proficiency with English and Spanish preferred
