What are the responsibilities and job description for the Media Planner position at Boston Globe Media?
Key Focuses:
- Create high performing media plans through establishing a deep understanding of products and the ability to assess client needs and KPIs
- Maintain a culture of collaboration with Sales Reps, Account Managers and Creative Marketing
- Maintain an ongoing knowledge of BGM audience insights in order to tell the “why” when selling BGM advertising solutions
Responsibilities:
- Media Planning:
- Develop strategic multimedia plans leveraging BGM’s suite of media products, including The Boston Globe, Boston.com, Studio/B (branded content), Globe Events/Experiences, and BGM First Party Data solutions
- Lead package development for key editorial and event initiatives across print, digital, events and sponsored content
- Develop custom media plans for RFPs and proactive pitches to clients
- Drive overall media plan strategy when collaborating with Account Managers and Sales Reps during media plan development
- Create media plans to drive top performance in order to hit client benchmarks, and optimize them to exceed impression fulfillment, click-through-rate, article views, time on site, and owned and operated site property distribution
- RFP Operations:
- Assist the internal RFP and proactive pitch process to understand sales product needs and client KPIs with the rest of the pre-sales team and sales representatives
- Take notes during internal calls and ensure that media plans meet the needs of specific client pitch requirements
- Sales Training & Product Speciality:
- Present RFP and proactive media plans and strategies to sales reps for feedback and final approval, and share final external client-facing materials with the team
- Review initiative packages and products with sales reps during standing team meetings.
- Audience & Product Insights:
- Host regular meetings with Account Management and Campaign Management team to review ongoing or active branded content campaigns, events metrics, and other campaign performance
- Track branded content and initiative traffic performance to best understand traffic insights
- Act as the go to source for key performance metrics and product recommendations across the board
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years at an agency or publisher with media planning experience
- Familiarity with media performance and trends
- Ability to act as an analytical and organized collaborator, and are comfortable learning new tools and technologies
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple internal teams and stakeholders
- Fluency in the google suite platform of products (Gmail, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
- A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment

The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.
