In November 2015, STAT was launched as a new national media brand focused on health, medicine, and life sciences. Since then, we have grown to be the authoritative and trustworthy news media source in the industry and our all-star team of editors and reporters have won numerous journalism awards, including being named as a 2021 Pulitzer finalist. The STAT brand includes a website (www.statnews.com), mobile app, numerous newsletters, live events and virtual events, and other products. STAT is based in Boston and is affiliated with Boston Globe Media Partners but is independent from The Boston Globe.
The Role
This role will expand the foundation for data literacy and data-driven decision making across the organization. Through the lens of growth and optimization, the role will help develop strategies for editorial, help accelerate product development, as well as optimize our business practices across all business units. This will be done using a myriad of data sources and in close partnerships across teams including editorial, social, subscriptions, and advertising.
What You’ll Do
- Guide web and email analytics strategy: Work closely with the product, engineering, and design teams to guide how, where, and when we implement custom analytics on the site. Review tracking requirements for new features, support the QA team during implementation, and perform routine data maintenance, audits, and cleanup across all platforms.
- Manage analytics reports and dashboards: Use Adobe Analytics, SQL/Python, Snowflake, and BI tools (e.g. Tableau) to design and deliver weekly/monthly reports, audience profiles, and dashboards to aid decision-making for editorial and business teams and senior leadership.
- Manage recurring reporting: Design and deliver weekly/monthly reports, audience profiles, and performance dashboards to aid decision-making for functional teams. Reporting includes web, mobile and competitive data.
- Answer ad hoc requests: Respond to ad hoc data requests including information on site traffic, readers’ online behavior, and site performance.
- Develop measures of success: Work with relevant stakeholders to determine key measures of success with a focus on actionability; plan implementation with engineering and product teams; clearly communicate performance and recommendations to Product and Marketing
- Collaborate with multiple teams: Work closely with Marketing, Product, Sales and Editorial to provide insight into audience behavior in order to drive site updates and initiatives that increase digital subscription revenue and/or advertising revenue
- Get a holistic view: Develop an understanding of STAT’s products and technical stack to meet the company’s current and future needs
Who You Are
- Extensive experience with web analytics platforms such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics
- Experience in data analytics with proficient SQL
- Strong sense of initiative and ability to drive projects run by multi-functional teams to completion
- Ability to use BI tools and visualizations to tell clear data narratives
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Self-directed and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to change
- Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills
- Highly motivated to excel with minimal supervision
- Intellectual curiosity

Bonus Points
- Experience with Snowflake
- Coding knowledge, especially with Python
- Strong knowledge of WordPress, CRMs, Customer Data Platforms, integration apps, email marketing, and marketing automation tools
- Interest in journalism and life science and health news

Compensation/Location
The minimum salary for this position is $70,000. We offer a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, a 401k plan, generous vacation, parental leave, and more. We also have numerous wellness offerings, including free access to HeadSpace for all full time employees.
We prefer you to be based in Boston or Washington, D.C., adhering to a hybrid schedule of in-office 3 days a week and work-from-home 2 days a week.
STAT’s Boston office is located in downtown Boston, nearby Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines.
STAT’s Washington office is located in the Boston Globe’s downtown bureau and is easily accessible by multiple Metro lines and buses.
