What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Direct Care Staff position at Boston Higashi School?
JOB GOAL:
To monitor the students during the overnight hours, to prepare the students for breakfast, and the transition to the day program. Work under the guidance of the Overnight Directors, Assistant Director, and Residential Program Director to implement the principles of Daily Life Therapy and provide a safe and secure environment for the students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend to the personal needs of the students while teaching daily living and social skills, in accordance with Daily Life Therapy.
- Create and maintain a safe environment for the students.
- Develop a positive rapport with students within a group setting.
- Document students’ nighttime performance.
- Communicate effectively with Directors and other staff regarding student issues.
- Maintain ongoing communication with residential program staff and day program staff.
- Perform as a role model for students.
- Participate in all student activities including extensive physical exercise and other various activities.
- Must remain awake during all working hours and perform checks on the students every 15 minutes. Update student logs as necessary.
- Strive to maintain an open and positive atmosphere within the organization. This includes respect for the decisions of the administration and following directions, guidance and supervision of the Residential Director, Assistant Directors, Division Directors and or Principal.
- Attend all in-service meetings, orientations and staff meetings.
- Develop an awareness of the residential and day programs.
- Familiarize one’s self and adhere to Policies and Procedures of the whole program.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality with parents and staff.
- Manage and oversee care of students' personal belongings.
- Create and maintain materials as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Directors and/or Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to work in a multicultural environment and possess good interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess a positive and professional attitude and be able to communicate well with co-workers.
- Must be able to adhere to the assigned working schedule.
- Degree not required for Overnight Awake Instructors, experience with special students is preferred.
