What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Communications Activity Leader position at Boston Higashi School?
JOB GOAL: To develop and conduct social, communication and computer/technology lessons for students within assigned divisions under Daily Life Therapy.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and conduct group communication lessons for classes.
- Conduct computer lessons for classes.
- Conduct structured play and/or leisure classes in collaboration with the classroom teacher or group teacher.
- Assist Master Teacher/Speech-Language Pathologists in conducting social skills groups as requested.
- Collaborate with Speech-Language Pathologist, Master Teacher and others in developing communication portion of IEP and individual student goals.
- Collaborate with Master Teacher and Speech-Language Pathologist in developing individual student communication systems.
- Collaborate with teachers in the development of visual supports within the classroom and residential environment.
- Communicate with parents as needed regarding individual student communication strategies to be utilized at home.
- Conduct informal assessment on individual students as requested by Master Teacher and Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Support teachers with the teaching of Daily Life Therapy® as needed (dinner, snack, showers, break time).
- Participate in all student activities including: extensive physical exercise, various forms of exercise including lifting, standing, squatting, and jogging one to three miles daily.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Master Teacher, Speech-Language Pathologist and Director of Curriculum.
- Maintain an open, honest and tactful relationship with parents and other individuals involved with the students.
- Respond to parent’s inquiries or phone calls promptly, respectfully and discreetly and record according to the designated procedures.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality with parents and others.
- Attend daily division meetings, monthly parent study meetings.
- Attend morning meeting and afternoon meeting.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Residential Academic Director, Division Directors, and/ or Speech-Language Pathologists.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred
- Bachelors Degree in Communication Disorders or Special Education preferred.
- Computer knowledge required.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
- Highly flexible schedule including some weekends and holidays
