Life Sciences Laboratory Operations Training Program #8

Boston Lab Services offices, Burlington, MA.

The class will run from Tuesday April 22 through Friday April 25. Attendance for all 4 days will be required.

No prior experience in the life sciences or lab operations necessary. This program is designed to provide the individual with the necessary hands-on skills to begin a career supporting lab operations in the biotechnology industry working with Boston Lab Services.

Boston Lab Services provides a one week, paid, comprehensive hands-on training program at our onsite laboratory focusing on basic laboratory skills including Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), shipping and receiving protocols, and proficient inventory management techniques. You will also learn the basics for required lab operations certifications which will be completed at the end of the program.

Key training topics include basic lab equipment & tools, safety guidelines, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), GHS and HazMat (spills), DOT HazMat, introduction to IATA, bloodborne pathogens, common lab techniques, media preparation, RCRA, alarms, alerts, and gasses, equipment maintenance and calibration, GLP, data management, shipping and receiving, and chemical inventory management.

Typical Job Responsibilities for a Lab Tech & Lab Associate:

  • Support waste management (Collection of biowaste, chemical waste and sharps containers).
  • Maintain the consumables list, order lab consumables, organization and labeling of lab consumables.
  • Daily management of essential gases (tracking gas levels) and working with the vendor in the ordering and replacement of new tanks.
  • Tracking, shipping and receiving mail and packages.
  • Glass wash/autoclaving of glassware.
  • General lab and office maintenance.
  • Light facilities maintenance tasks.
  • Emergency 24/7 alarm response.
  • General cleaning and sanitization of the facility.
  • Ordering and stocking of office and coffee supplies.
  • Ordering, stocking, and organization of lab consumables.
  • Conference room and workstation set up.
  • Monthly testing of critical emergency equipment such as eyewash/shower.
  • Any other activities and tasks reasonably requested by the company.

Desired Requirements:

  • Basic lab training and 0-2 years of job experience. AS/BS in life sciences is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a face paced and dynamic environment.
  • Flexibility and acceptance of change.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Observant with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform work in the laboratory in a clean and safe manner.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to collaborate with scientists and management, which can be described as a “team player” approach.
