The Boston Leadership Institute offers award-winning summer STEM programs for teens. Tasks are varied and interesting. Work involves helping people and promoting science and math career paths. The company is seeking to hire a highly organized, efficient, and personable Administrative Assistant who writes well. The candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher. They will answer phone calls, respond to emails, and maintain a master calendar for the office. They should have basic skills in Wordpress for implementing simple updates on web pages and Excel for creating and updating spreadsheets. Attention to detail and grammar is important. Additionally, this staff member will collect and track paperwork and forms from families and staff via our online system, track and follow up on customer payments, and round up outstanding forms. Because this is a small company, the Administrative Assistant will be called upon to do a range of tasks, which they should complete cheerfully. A positive attitude, a willingness to grow and accept feedback, the ability to have work critiqued and take direction gracefully, and a strong work ethic are much appreciated.

The successful candidate for the Administrative Assistant/Site Director will enjoy organization and make it their priority while being highly conscientious. He or she will be a team player who takes pride in not letting his or her coworkers down. Social competence is a must. Interest in education or non-profit work is a plus. The Administrative Assistant will interface with parents, students, and educators as well as support staff. He/She will enjoy engaging with others, answering questions over the phone and in person. He/She will keep a cool head under pressure and resolve sticky situations in a politically adept manner. Ideally, this candidate will be looking to make a career with the Boston Leadership Institute. The Administrative Assistant must be comfortable working in a small office in the off-season and with large numbers of people during the summer. Some of the main tasks are described below.

  • The Administrative Assistant will assist with admissions to our three week competitive research programs. He/She will format and print applications, perform an initial reading, and send decision letters. This staff member will also send follow-up postcards and emails.
  • The Administrative Assistant will help with logistics involving summer field trips, meals, and transportation. The Administrative Assistant will be a team member and comfortable with multitasking.
  • Because BLI is a seasonal program, roles and responsibilities shift in the summer. During June, July, and August, this person will be a Site Director at one of our three Boston-area campuses. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work between June 15 and August 10, 2025. The Site Director will run registration and coordinate assignments of space, field trips, and staff. The candidate will need to assist with moving in and out of campuses, which requires moving small and medium boxes and similar tasks. Summer is our high season and our business is kids, so we need someone who is very responsible and available after hours in the summer. This position requires the candidate to have a car, especially for the summer season. During the summer, some work outside of business hours will be needed.
  • Because BLI offers prestigious, competitive research programs and is a purveyor of high quality education, we care about excellent written and oral literacy. Graduation from a major public university or a competitive private school is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.10 per hour
