What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Medical Technician - EMT (Boston EMS) position at BOSTON PUBLIC HEALTH COMMISSION?
- Provides emergency medical care based on established basic life support treatment protocols to persons of all ages; operates emergency response vehicles in compliance with state law; maintains all certifications and licenses in compliance with state regulation 105 CMR 170.
- Responds to requests for emergency medical assistance from the public via 9-1-1 and Computer Aided Dispatch System.
- Assesses, treats and transports patients with illness, injuries or a behavioral emergency; documents all clinical care as required.
- Maintains equipment and supplies; works in hazardous environments.
- Complies with dept policies, procedures and protocols.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- May be reassigned to the EMS Dispatch Operations Center if qualified.
The Boston residency requirement for this position has been temporarily suspended. The suspension period is for three years or when EMS maintains 85% of the number of budgeted bargaining unit positions filled when adjusted for incoming classes and employees leaving service at EMS, whichever first occurs. Accordingly, successful applicants are not required to establish Boston residency as a condition of hire at this time but may be required to establish Boston residency following the expiration of the current residency moratorium to remain employed in the role of emergency medical technician.
