POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Project Manager for the Newcomer Success Program Initiative will lead and coordinate a comprehensive program designed to support newcomer students, including migrants, refugees, and asylees. This position will oversee the program's operational, strategic, and programmatic activities to ensure its success in fostering academic, social, emotional, and psychological well-being. Additionally, the Project Manager will manage the Generations Initiative Earn-and-Learn Program, supporting multilingual learners through academic interventions and culturally relevant experiential learning. The Project Manager will maintain a transparent flow of communication and department functions, ensuring coordination and alignment across the Division of Student Support and other BPS departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Leadership and Coordination
- Oversee the implementation of the Newcomer Success Program and Generations Initiative to ensure alignment with program goals and outcomes.
- Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring program activities are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Develop and maintain a detailed project plan, including milestones, timelines, and deliverables.
- Collaborate with school leaders, educators, and community partners to ensure program integration and effectiveness.
Student Support and Engagement
- Coordinate academic and social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, tutoring, wellness programs, athletics, and enrichment opportunities.
- Ensure effective English language acquisition through targeted instructional strategies.
- Facilitate culturally relevant workshops and activities that celebrate students’ native cultures while fostering cultural competency.
- Fluent in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole
- Monitor and assess students’ progress in areas such as English proficiency, academic achievement, and social-emotional well-being.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication
- Act as the primary liaison between the school district, community organizations, and families to enhance engagement and communication.
- Design and implement multilingual family engagement programming to foster active involvement.
- Coordinate with local agencies, colleges, and vocational institutions to create post-secondary opportunities for students.
Program Evaluation and Reporting
- Develop systems to collect and analyze data on program outcomes, including English proficiency growth, academic performance, and SEL metrics.
- Use data insights to improve program strategies and outcomes.
- Prepare reports for district leadership and funders on program performance and effectiveness.
Operational Oversight for General Newcomer initiatives
- Manage the Earn-and-Learn program for 100 multilingual students, ensuring successful integration of academic interventions, cultural workshops, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Oversee stipend distribution and ensure compliance with program policies.
- Partner with educators to identify and implement reading and language acquisition strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent and/or 3-5 years administrative, managerial or professional experience in public service within an urban area
- Demonstrate an understanding of the community served by the Boston Public Schools
- Strong ability to work as part of an active team, work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects, prioritize daily activities, and professionally represent division to partners both within and outside of the BPS
- Advanced skills in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Suite; proficiency in developing/maintaining websites
- Excellent planning, project management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Able to use discretion and protect confidentiality in student and employee matters Very strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop good relationships and network with various populations
- Strong written and oral communication skills
