REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Culinary

 

Position Overview:

The Marketing Manager, Food & Nutrition resides in the Office of Food & Nutrition within the Operations Division of the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Assistant Director of Culinary.  The Marketing Manager, Food & Nutrition is responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategic marketing and communication strategies for the Food Service Department to increase meal participation and awareness of the program.

The Marketing Manager, Food & Nutrition provides support in creating awareness about meal programming through multiple communication channels reaching all stakeholders to advance the mission of the Boston Public Schools.  The position will have a particular emphasis on communication strategy, designing marketing assets, creating student engagement opportunities and elevating the perception of school meals in Boston.  The Marketing Manager, Food & Nutrition will serve in a mid-level role within the Food & Nutrition Department. The position will also be responsible for having a particular level of expertise with regard to marketing, communication and graphic design. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Marketing & Communications 

  • Develop marketing and communication strategy for the Department in line with District vision.
  • Manage all marketing and external communications activities for the Department, including the creation and publication of printed menus and social media campaigns in addition to a wide range of Department marketing materials.
  • Develop campus marketing and merchandising standards. Conduct on-site visits at school cafeterias to ensure these standards are met and good customer service is practiced.
  • Communicate with school administrators, teachers, parents, students and the media regarding Food Service activities and initiatives. 
  • Maintain effective internal communications to ensure that all staff are kept informed of district and department happenings.
  • Plan publicity events to increase awareness of nutrition, the school meals program and to increase meal participation.
  • Partner with community organizations to promote school meals.

Student Engagement

 

  • Expands healthy food access and provides education to students about nutrition, cultural foodways and the food system.

 

  • Promote nutrition education and awareness. 
  • Present information related to the school meals program and nutrition at Health Fairs, Career Days, PTA, civic groups and other community appropriate forums.

Innovation & Leadership

  • Participate in the Department’s Menu Committee to bring innovation to the District’s menus.
  • Research and develop nutrition related marketing resources for use by cafeteria managers and Area Supervisors, including serving line menu signage.
  • Support staff training and development.
  • Monitor and report on effectiveness of marketing materials, events and campaigns.
  • Help the District conserve costs and be responsible stewards of our environment through intentional employee practices including but not limited to waste reduction, recycling, composting, energy and water conservation, etc.
  • Dedicated to providing an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes.

Qualifications - Required:

  • A Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Marketing and/or Communications. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related experience, including graphic design 
  • Strong verbal and written communication, professional graphic design abilities, and excellent project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Canva and/or InDesign and social media platforms as well as generalcomputer systems, electronic devices and software applications.
  • Flexibility, a confident and outgoing personality, 
  • Be comfortable with public speaking and possess a strong creative outlook.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. 
  • A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education.

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Experience in K-12 environment and child nutrition
  • Bilingual in English-Spanish or English-Haitian Creole 
  • Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools
