**EMPLOYMENT IS SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY**

Team: Summer Early Focus
Reports to: Solange Marsan, Summer Early Focus Director
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Early Focus, led by the BPS Department of Early Childhood, will operate in 5 sites throughout the City Of Boston serving incoming K0 - 2nd grade students. SEF is designed to provide integrated support in literacy, math, science, arts and social emotional development to help prepare children for the following school year.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Operations Intern will Support the Early Focus Program (SEF) team with materials management and other related processes required to open, operate, and close the SEF in the summer of 2025.
SCHEDULE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fall Inventory (January - March, 2025)
The intern will be expected to work closely with the Summer Early Focus Director and planning team to organize materials ordered for the program according to the materials list and organize them in bins and in shelves by grade level. (may include heavy lifting of materials). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Location: Early Childhood satellite storage facility in the Boston Latin Academy Basement.
- Inspect, sort and prepare materials: check materials and discard everything that is not in good condition for use the next summer. Sort and prepare materials for inventory according to instructions in the materials list.
- Count and record quantities: working with the Summer planning team, count all materials following the materials list instructions and record quantities in the inventory sheet.
- Organize and store inventoried materials: in collaboration with the summer planning team, organize, store and label all inventoried materials in the shelves by grade level and by content area.
Spring Planning (March - June, 2025):
The intern will be expected to work closely with the EC Procurement Coordinator receiving and organizing materials ordered for the program. (may include heavy lifting of materials). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Receive and Intake new summer materials from vendors before program:
Location: Bolling Building and satellite storage facility in the Boston Latin Academy Basement.
In close coordination with the Procurement Coordinator and Summer Director, this requires to physically receive the materials ordered for the summer program, including:
- Unpacking and verifying quantities and conditions against the purchase order and the packing / shipping slips normally included along with the delivered materials.
- Reporting daily delivery activities to the Procurement Coordinator and Summer Director
- Organizing all received materials in shelves according to grade level
- Coordinate with the procurement coordinator and personnel at the satellite location for support with handling and lifting heavy materials during the intake process.
- Support with classroom materials packing and preparation for distribution - in collaboration with the summer planning team, prepare the classroom materials in plastic bins following the process as indicated by the Summer Director.
- Support student enrollment by calling families as indicated by the Summer Director
During Summer Early Focus (July - August, 2025):
- Support Summer Director with providing sites with additional materials as needed at satellite location or directly to schools if needed.
- Support calling families if children are tardy or absent from the program to ensure our program attendance goal of at least 80% for each student.
Post-Summer (August 2025):
Assist Program Director and Site Coordinator with compiling and inventory of all summer and curriculum materials after conclusion of programming. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Receive and Intake summer materials (classroom bins) from schools after program:
Location: Satellite storage facility in the Boston Latin Academy Basement.
In close coordination with the Procurement Coordinator and Summer Director, this requires to physically receive the classroom bins from schools after the summer program ends, including:
- Unpacking all materials from bins and verifying quantities and conditions against the materials list by grade provided by the Summer Director.
- Reporting daily delivery activities to the Summer Director
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS

Required:
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail-orientation, personal organization and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively and comfortably in a team oriented, fast paced environment
- Expertise with Google Suite for Education
- Proficiency in Excel and microsoft office applications
- Strict confidentiality regarding protected student information
- Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
Preferred:
- Experience and knowledge of the Boston early learning community including the geography, demographics, social, political, cultural and linguistic context
- Demonstration of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices.
- Willing to work in close collaboration with the Department of Early Childhood on shared goals in a student-centered, school-aligned, results-focused initiative.
- Experience working within a Summer Learning partnership such as Summer Early Focus preferred.
- A car and willingness to travel between several different sites

TERMS:
Compensation is set based on hours of work, including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties.
Payroll will be processed on a biweekly basis after receipt of completed timesheets in accordance with BPS summer payroll schedule. HR/payment overseen by Sila Rosario at the BPS Department of Early Childhood.
Salary Range: Candidate(s) selected for this position will be paid at a rate of $20 - $25 an hour.
