Overview of Program:
The Boston Public Schools is excited to announce the Spring & Summer 2025 launch of the AI Fellows Program. We are seeking curious, equity-driven, and innovative educators who are eager to explore the instructional potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI that creates something based on a prompt) in the classroom—whether through educator-designed materials and strategies, student-centered learning experiences, or both.
This unique opportunity invites BPS teachers, instructional coaches, and specialists to pilot BPS-approved AI tools, reflect on their classroom use, and develop high-quality case studies to share across the district. The program supports responsible, effective, and human-centered applications of AI tools aligned with the 2025–2026 BPS Instructional Expectations including High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), Equitable Literacy, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and strategies for supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
The AI Fellows Program is grounded in educator agency and inquiry. It is designed to elevate teacher-led innovation, ensure safe and equitable AI implementation, and build system-wide coherence for instructional technology use.
BPS-approved generative AI tools—such as Gemini, NotebookLM, MagicSchool, Brisk, Canva, Gemini tools in Google Classroom, and Solara by Panorama—will be connected to teacher-identified classroom problems of practice to support instructional improvement.
AI Fellow Responsibilities:
- Participate in professional development and training focused on AI literacy, ethics, and responsible use.
- Participate in a peer group with a shared instructional focus to collaboratively design a classroom-based action research project using AI tools.
- Implement AI strategies during a structured Action Research Sprint.
- Gather student and teacher feedback on tool impact and effectiveness.
- Align implementation with HQIM, UDL, multilingual learner supports, and equity frameworks.
- Attend three collaborative Zoom sessions with other AI Fellows to reflect on practice and refine use cases.
- Create and submit a comprehensive case study including:
- A slide deck
- A short video
- Written reflections following a provided format (problem, approach, impact, lessons
- Contribute to the development of district-wide AI guidance, policy suggestions, and professional learning materials.
- 5 hours – Research & Professional Development
- 5 hours – Classroom Implementation & Action Research
- 2 hours – Peer Learning and Collaborative Reflection
- 3 hours – Case Study Development
- Current BPS teacher (all content areas)
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, innovation, and inclusive instruction
- Willingness to test new strategies and engage in inquiry-based learning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Current authorization to work in the United States
- Experience with curriculum development, data analysis, or instructional coaching
- Experience supporting multilingual learners and/or students with disabilities
- Familiarity with UDL, HQIM, and/or digital learning tools
- Multilingual
- Previous participation in technology integration or instructional innovation projects
Stipend – Maximum of 15 hours of work (BTU Hourly Stipend Rate of $56.81)
