What are the responsibilities and job description for the SY 24/25 READING SPECIALIST UPPER SCHOOL position at Boston Renaissance Charter Public School (UP)?
Summary: The literacy teacher is a specialist in all aspects of ELA instruction; reading, writing, and spelling. The literacy teacher provides high-level literacy support for members of the school community.
Major Responsibilities:
● Organizing and implementing multisensory structured language instruction,
● Providing direct service for whole group, small group, and individual instruction based on student needs
● Administering and interpreting educational assessments
● Implement a range of effective strategies and reading interventions
● Co-plan with classroom teacher,
● Organize and disseminate ELA resources to school staff
● Collect and organize and analyze data, including measures such DIBELS for grade-level meetings
● Implement lessons specific to Common Core Standards and share instructional strategies
● Participate in grade-level meetings
● Lead specified curriculum meetings, as well as lead discussions around literacy practices
● Assist in the analysis of school-wide literacy strengths and weaknesses and formulate plans to improve student achievement in reading and teacher effectiveness
● Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students
● Morning Duty: Includes active supervision of hallways and classrooms.
● Afternoon Duty: Includes active supervision of the dismissal process.
● Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Reading and/or Special Education (Required)
● Master’s degree in Reading and/or Special Education preferred
● Prior teaching experience, especially in the classroom
● Project Read, Wilson, and/or Orton-Gilingham preferred
● Background and experience in the administration and interpretation of educational assessments
● Knowledge and understanding of Common Core State Standards
● Excellent communication skills
● Required license(s)/MTELs:
● DESE License: Reading All Levels and SEI Endorsement. Or
● Passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s).
● Two or more years of classroom teaching experience in urban setting preferred
