Assist staff within the consortium with learning aspects of laboratory testing, quality control, systems software, and quality improvement. Maintains competency in the laboratory. Oversee training of staff within the consortium with their abilities to perform laboratory testing. Serves as a clinical leader, consultant and educator for clinical and technical practice within laboratory services. Provides support for implementing and maintaining clinical excellence standards and competencies of the clinical/technical laboratory staff. The clinical educator assists senior and operational leaders with efforts to ensure all processes and systems meet the quality, regulatory, certifying, and licensing standards for laboratory services and assists with monitoring compliance with those standards.Provides clinical instruction, mentoring and leadership in a variety of settings, including but not limited to the following: Orientation for all laboratory, POC, nursing, providers, and other staff. Transition and or training programs for new equipment/processes/services. Competency validation for laboratory staff. Coordinates and provides oversight of laboratory students (Phlebotomy, LT, MLT, and MLS). Other clinical/technical training as necessary. Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job Under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Services, the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor, manages the Performance Improvement/QA functions of the Laboratory and is responsible for the enhancement of all aspects of Laboratory Services through ongoing monitoring and application of quality improvement principles, concepts, and technologies. Is accountable and responsible for the overall design, coordination, and integration of quality/performance measurement, improvement utilization, initiatives, and outcomes. Plans, participates, and implements PI/QA activities and the provision of all associated educational activities. Responsible for department compliance with accreditation agencies' standards and regulations (CAP, AABB, FDA, JCAHO, COLA) and ensuring laboratory accreditation. Oversees and maintains department policies and procedures to comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies. Responsible for the establishment and ongoing monitoring of PI indicators and thresholds, outcomes monitoring, and data analyses. Investigates all risk management, patient/customer, and physician satisfaction issues and outcome resolution; works in collaboration with Risk Management, Quality Management, and/or other involved or associated parties to effect positive resolution and initiates necessary action at the department level. Participates in accredited performance improvement programs laboratory services, all such data collection, data input, and result analysis of benchmark. Performs all automated and manual testing on patients and quality control materials in the Hematology/Coagulation, Chemistry Section & Urinalysis, Microbiology/Serology, and Blood Bank Section, as needed. Assists with the Implementation of new equipment and procedures in a timely manner. Assist with the completion of all required validation studies. Completes annual competency assessment successfully and by assigned date. Other duties as assigned. Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required Bachelor s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent degree required. ASCP, AMT, or other laboratory certification required. Experience Required 3-5 years as a Medical Technologist, MLS, CLS, or Equivalent required. Knowledge of Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment. Knowledge of teaching laboratory materials receiving and storage procedures. Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures. Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards. Ability to Ability to prepare reagents according to CLIA standards. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to provide technical guidance documents, validation plans, and training to end users. Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to maintain records and perform basic mathematical calculations. Required Certifications: American Medical Technologists - American Medical Technologists, Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP) - American Society of Clinical Pathologists
