In 1940, the Berkshire Music Center (now the Tanglewood Music Center) began its operations. Home to the famous Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the site of one of the world’s best-known music festivals, Tanglewood hosts the Festival of Contemporary Music, along with many other events including concerts of various genres from jazz to pop. Today, Tanglewood annually draws over 350,000 visitors. Each season offers not only a vast quantity of music, but also a vast range of musical forms and styles, all of it presented with a regard for artistic excellence that makes the festival unique.
About the Role
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of stage management and production, including load ins/outs, changeovers, and run-of-show operations.
- Work closely with BSO Stage Management to ensure safe and efficient technical and production operations.
- Work closely with local union stagehands and touring groups to execute Symphony, Pops, Popular Artist, and TMC concerts.
- Support the work of musicians, lighting designers, audio engineers, and video engineers.
- Work closely with Tanglewood Facilities team members and Stage Crew to maintain buildings and ensure smooth operations.
- Occasionally drive vehicles to transport instruments/equipment.
Required Education and Experience
- Knowledge of orchestral stage and special event set-ups, concert and theatrical lighting, video projection, and sound.
- Patience, good humor, flexibility and sensitivity to the pressures experienced by performers and presenters; a team player.
- Ability to work long hours and late nights and perform strenuous physical work.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds; work at height.
