This position provides public safety and security services as a Public Safety Officer assigned to the Boston University Medical Campus Department of Public Safety. Primary responsibility is to provide and safe and secure environment at the National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratory (NEIDL), ensuring consistent and safe delivery of service throughout the medical center involving all members institutions, especially for NEIDL. Adheres to and enforces all policy and procedures set forth by the department and university for the protection of BUMC and the NEIDL staff, students, employees and medical center assets. Responsible for enforcing the laws of the commonwealth, rules and regulations of the university and all other associated regulatory and oversight agencies. Works under the direction of the Director of Public Safety or his designee. The Public Safety Department is a full-time, professional law enforcement agency that provides a wide variety of public services, including alarm response, emergency medical assistance, investigating reports of suspicious circumstances, and response to and investigating criminal matters. The National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratory (NEIDL) is part of a national network of secure facilities studying infectious diseases that are or have the potential to become major public health concerns. The laboratories are dedicated to the development of diagnostics, vaccines, and treatments to combat emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. The NEIDL represents a major step forward in advancing public health and solidifying the New England areas reputation as the biomedical research hub of the nation. Supported by all local research institutions, the 192,000-square-foot, seven-story building serves as a venue and resource for training researchers in infectious diseases. Required Skills
- Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
- Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee Reserve- Intermittent Police Academy training preferred.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check including:
- Drug test
- Previous/Current employment verification
- CORI/SORI
- References
- Medical and psychological examinations
- Ability to successfully complete an assigned Special State Police Academy (if needed) and any additional required training
- Ability to obtain (and retain) an appropriate Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms
- Ability to be appointed (and retain appointment) as a Special State Police Officer (as defined in Massachusetts General Law Chapter 22)
