Job Summary:
Our Client is seeking an experienced and results-driven Operations Manager to oversee daily operations at their dirt-moving company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing crews, ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget, maintaining equipment, and optimizing operational efficiency. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and logistics skills to ensure the safe and effective movement of earth across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Project Management
- Oversee all aspects of dirt-moving operations, including excavation, grading, hauling, and site preparation.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate projects to meet deadlines and client specifications.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental policies, and local/state laws.
- Monitor productivity and efficiency, implementing process improvements where needed.
- Work closely with clients, contractors, and suppliers to maintain strong working relationships.
Team Leadership & Personnel Management
- Supervise and lead a team of equipment operators, drivers, and laborers.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to crew members based on skill level and project requirements.
- Conduct training and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Address personnel issues, including hiring, performance management, and discipline.
Equipment & Resource Management
- Oversee the maintenance and allocation of heavy equipment (bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, etc.).
- Coordinate with mechanics and service providers to ensure proper maintenance and repair of machinery.
- Manage fuel, materials, and supply inventories to prevent shortages or delays.
Financial & Budget Management
- Develop and oversee budgets, controlling costs and maximizing profitability.
- Track job costs and ensure projects remain within budget constraints.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proven experience in heavy civil construction, earthmoving, excavation, or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications.
- Experience with project scheduling and logistics management.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in project management software, GPS grading systems, and Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
