What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Nursing - RN position at Bothell Health Care?
Is directly accountable to the Director of Nursing for the day-to-day operations, activities and success of the patient care staff, as governed by Bothell Health Care policies, and state and federal regulations. Ensures facility continues to develop and maintain high standards for excellence by being knowledgeable of industry changes and trends, and by implementing up-to-date nursing practices. Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing.
Essential Functions :
1. Develop and maintain a nursing service philosophy, objectives, standards of practice, policy and procedure manuals.
2. Manage, supervise and develop plans of action for all assigned units, providing consistent monitoring and follow-through.
3. Establish systems for care planning, including assessments, plan of treatment, objectives and goals, evaluations and discharge planning. Maintain accurate and timely documentation reflecting same. Coordinate care needs with other departments.
4. Schedule nursing staff on all shifts, adhering to budget and staffing guidelines. Develop and maintain a written staffing plan.
5. Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, disciplining, coaching, and conducting performance appraisals on assigned units, or delegating to the appropriate individuals. Confers with Administrator prior to any termination of subordinate staff.
6. Consistently demonstrates an understanding and knowledge of facility and staff licensing and certification laws and requirements, survey requirements, and Medicare program.
7. Supervise the rehabilitation programs of residents.
8. Ensure reporting departments consistently meet all state and federal requirements for long-term care facilities for licensure. Ensure existence of a quality assurance program for nursing services and coordinate interdisciplinary quality assurance program.
9. Demonstrate dedication to staff and residents by knowing each resident and their individual needs, providing opportunities for recognizing a job well done by employees, and implementing support programs.
10. Maintain open communications with Administrator regarding patient care activities, personnel or staffing problems, and other related topics.
11. Represent facility to residents / patients, physicians, family member of current or potential patients, and to the community.
12. Supervise recruitment programs for nursing personnel, assist with planning orientation for new nurses, and assist with evaluation of staff development programs.
13. Understand the relationships with state and federal regulatory agencies, and work to maintain positive relationships.
14. Participate with the facility Administrator and other department directors in development and maintenance of practices and procedures that promote infection control, fire safety, and hazard reduction.
15. Ensure that only licensed nurses or physicians administer injectable medications.
16. When not available in person or by telephone to direct the functions and activities of the nursing services department, designate in writing a specific registered nurse licensed to practice in the State of Washington to serve in that capacity. Post the information at each nursing station.
17. Established protocols for continuous quality improvement.
18. In the absence of the DNS, assumes overall responsibility of the DNS position.
19. Tracks incident report trends, performs root cause analysis, develops interventions for accident prevention, and complete summaries for incident reports.
20. Ensures accurate completion of accident and incident reports and investigations in accordance with facility policies.
ADNS Requirements :
- Requires current RN License in WA state
- Must have at least 1 year of experience in Skilled Nursing Home
- Must be action-oriented, self-directed and a self-starter
- Strong people skills; diplomatic in interaction with others
- Understands and follows written and verbal directions
- Demonstrates clinical skills competency as a licensed nurse in providing care to the resident population
- Demonstrates ability to elicit work output from nursing assistants and improves quality of care while respecting the rights, dignity and individuality of each employee
- Confidently use computer functions, create and edit documents in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to create forms, spreadsheets, and tools to meet the needs of the facility.
