JOB SUMMARY:
The Admission Coordinator RN for the Admission Unit is a critical role responsible for overseeing the clinical and administrative aspects of patient admissions. This position combines nursing expertise with administrative skills to ensure a seamless and efficient admission process. The Admission Coordinator RN evaluates patient care needs, coordinates with the healthcare team to facilitate appropriate placements, and provides patient education and support throughout the admission process. The Admission Coordinator RN for the Admission Unit reports directly to the Admission Unit Manager/Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education:
a.) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required, master’s degree in nursing,
Healthcare Administration, or a related field is preferred.
2. Licensure/Certification:
a.) Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
b.) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
c.) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
3. Work Experience:
a.) Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, with a preference for experience in emergency or critical care settings.
b.) Prior experience in a hospital admission or patient placement role is highly desirable.
4. Skills:
a.) Strong clinical assessment and triage skills, with the ability to make quick,
informed decisions in a high-pressure environment.
b.) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient-

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES:
1. Patient Assessment & Clinical Triage:
a.) Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ clinical needs upon admission,
including reviewing medical histories, current health status, and any special care
requirements.
b.) Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to determine
appropriate levels of care and unit placement based on clinical needs and patient
preferences.
c.) Provide clinical triage support, prioritizing admissions based on the urgency and
complexity of patient conditions.
2. Coordination & Communication:
a.) Act as the primary liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team
during the admission process, ensuring clear communication and smooth
transitions of care.
b.) Work closely with the Patient Care Coordinator to assign appropriate rooms and
coordinate patient transfers within the hospital, taking into account medical needs,
unit capacity, and patient preferences.
c.) Communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital
departments to ensure timely and accurate patient placements.
3. Patient Education & Support:
a.) Educate patients and families about the admission process, hospital policies, and
what to expect during their stay.
b.) Provide information on treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care as part
of the admission process.
c.) Address patient and family concerns, providing emotional support and advocacy
as needed.
4. Documentation & Compliance:
a.) Ensure all necessary admission documentation is completed accurately and timely, including medical records, consent forms, and insurance information.
b.) Maintain up-to-date and organized patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
c.) Participate in quality assurance activities, identifying areas for improvement in the admission process and contributing to policy development.
5. Insurance Verification & Financial Coordination:
a.) Collaborate with the financial services team to verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for patient admissions.
b.) Assist in explaining billing procedures, payment options, and financial assistance programs to patients and families.
c.) Ensure that any financial obligations are addressed at the time of admission, including copayments and deposits.
6. Clinical Leadership & Team Support:
a.) Provide clinical guidance and support to other members of the admission team, including training and mentoring less experienced staff.
b.) Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and coordinate admission strategies.
c.) Serve as a resource for nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital personnel regarding admission procedures and clinical care requirements.
7. Continuous Improvement:
a.) Stay current with best practices inpatient admissions, nursing care, and healthcare regulations to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of the admission process.
