What You Will Do :

The Director of Institutional Giving is a critical member of Bottom Line’s Chicago Development team, focusing on how Bottom Line is engaging with the institutional ecosystem in Chicago. This role supports Bottom Line’s ambitious revenue goals by overseeing and leading Bottom Line’s engagement with foundations, corporations, and RFP processes including corporate and nonprofit partnerships. This individual will have a robust portfolio of institutional donors and prospects that they are taking the lead in developing and driving the relationship for while also working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and Managing Director of Development on the strategy and engagement for institutional giving relationships they hold. This person will be responsible for ensuring that the region’s value-add for institutional partners is attractive and that the benefits are being maximized. Through these efforts, the Director of Institutional Partnerships plays a crucial role in ensuring that Bottom Line’s Chicago region has the funding and visibility it needs to provide students with impactful programming in college access, college completion, and career readiness in alignment with our vision – thereby creating a far-reaching ripple effect, launched by the transformative power of a college degree and a mobilizing first career.

Responsibilities

Portfolio Management (75%)

  • Responsible for strategy and plan for meeting annual revenue goals for institutional giving from foundations and companies in excess of $2.5M while building a stronger pipeline for future years (This portfolio accounts for 60% of regional revenue and provides stability as the region grows individual giving.)
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of 80-90 relationships, serving as the primary point of contact leading outreach efforts, meetings, and relevant events. Additional details related to portfolio structure are noted in the sub sections below.
  • Collaborate with region’s donor experience lead to develop engagement plans for all corporate and foundation donors in the institutional giving portfolio, including a mix of newsletter outreach, annual check-ins, one-on-one meetings, participation in Bottom Line events, etc. Work closely with Executive Director and Managing Director of Development on the relationships that they own.
  • Lead efforts to identify and vet new prospects through strategic networking and research and synthesize results to set strategy in collaboration with Regional Leadership Team.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization, especially the Regional Leadership Team (ED, MDD, MDP, Directors), to strengthen the institutional giving portfolio.
  • Serve as leadership representation of Bottom Line at meetings with funders and funding prospects.
  • Maintain donor information and track moves management in Salesforce system in alignment with organizational guidance and policies.

Grants and Proposals

  • Manage a portfolio of 50 potential and existing foundation partners, providing strong engagement opportunities and proper stewardship towards $2M goal.
  • Implement strong strategies to increase the amount of foundation revenue and multi-year support, accounting for variable funding cycles of foundation and grant-giving.
  • Position Bottom Line as the front-runner or best fit for invite-only and / or competitive proposals through strong alignment of BL’s strategic plan with where Foundations are heading.
  • Corporate Partners

  • Manage a portfolio of 30 potential and existing corporate partners, providing strong engagement opportunities and proper stewardship towards $500K goal with a drive to grow this to $750K in the coming years.
  • Develop strong partnership proposals that are mutually beneficial to both Bottom Line and the potential partner, working with the Bottom Line Program and Career Connections colleagues to ensure alignment.
  • Engage corporate partners and prospects in regional events.
  • Nonprofit Partners

  • Manage and strategically develop a small portfolio of nonprofit partners where there is a fee for service and / or revenue-sharing model.
  • Identify funding opportunities around Bottom Line’s partners that are win-win for BL’s revenue and programmatic goals as well as our nonprofit partner.
  • Grants and Contracts Management (25%)

    In support of the above portfolios :

  • Continually refine and tailor Bottom Line Chicago’s Case for Support for institutional giving donors and prospects.
  • Ensure all funding proposals and reports are completed correctly and on time in close collaboration with the centralized grants management team.
  • Draft and manage contracts.
  • Manage all compliance activities, including grant reporting and documentation.
  • Ensure that all grant information and deliverables are tracked in Salesforce system in alignment with organizational guidance and policies.
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without advanced notice.

    Work Schedule :

    Monday - Friday 9 - 5 or 10 - 6 (local time), and flexibility may be requested; Additional hours as needed

  • At least 5 years of experience in foundation and corporate relationship management
  • A strong relationship builder with proven track record of establishing and growing institutional funding relationships over time
  • An exceptional communicator – both written and oral – with ability to tailor tone and key messages based on audience
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to build and execute strong project plans
  • Track record of exhibiting strong initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve goals
  • Experience working at a non-profit a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Familiarity with Salesforce a plus
