GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under the general direction of the Department Manager, Physician and/or Mid-level Provider, the Medical Assistant is able to support front and back office processes, and/or clinical processes, based on the needs of the practice and flow of the day. This position will prepare the patient for examination and/or procedures; prepares re-usable instruments for sterilization and ensure compliance with OSHA and state regulations. This position participates in the delivery of excellent medical services; may assist with front desk activities such as coordinating and completing all front desk activities and necessary paperwork to intake patients
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This role verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit. The Medical Assistant prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary. This position will administers injections and medications as directed by physician in addition to other clinical tasks. The Medial Assistant is expected to actively participating and supporting quality improvement activities and the clinical practice teams with these efforts. Must be able to stand or walk for 12-hours. Must be able to lift and move patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit and insurance eligibility.
2. Answering phones and taking messages as necessary.
3. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
4. Assist providers in preparing for minor surgeries and exams. Assist with scheduling of test and treatments.
5. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential. Maintains safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
6. Observes all infection control policies
7. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
8. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies and calling for repairs.
9. Maintain appropriate communication and good interpersonal skills with supervisors, staff and patient to ensure coordinated effort and provision of high quality service.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Requires interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, patient families, referring parties.
2. CPR trained.
3. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
4. Able to pass high efficiency respirator fit and use program as required by OSHA Volume 58, #195.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. High School diploma or general education equivalent (GED)
2. Certification of completion of Medial Assistant Program
3. Minimum of two years of experience in the family medicine or pediatric clinic preferred.
4. CMA or RMA strongly preferred.
5. Licensed through the Division of Public and Behavioral Health as an Office Laboratory Assistant.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, sit; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
