Boulder County is seeking an experienced, motivated leader to serve as the Deputy Director of Transportation Planning for our Community Planning & Permitting (CP&P) Department. This key leadership position will lead the Multimodal Transportation Planning Division and oversee a wide range of transportation planning activities in Boulder County, including policy, finance, regional corridors, transit, regional trails and bikeways, and Mobility for All human services-focused transportation mobility programs.

This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, with some flexibility and remote options. This position will work out of 2045 13th Street, Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $117,912.00 - $143,850.00 Annually

- Leadership & Management:
- Oversee the Multimodal Transportation Planning Division, managing staff, budget, and projects across multiple transportation disciplines.
- Provide strategic direction and mentorship to the team, ensuring organizational capacity to meet future challenges in transportation planning and program implementation
- Coordination and Collaboration:
- This position represents and coordinates the team's work with other county departments, municipalities, state and federal agencies, and the Board of County Commissioners.
- Program Development & Budget Management:
- Coordinate the development and management of the division's work program, budget, and the department's Capital Improvement Program involving regional trails and bikeways.
- Development and implementation of the Transportation Master Plan.
- Manage Transportation Sales Tax funds and complex state and federal grant funding sources.
- Federal Transit Authority transit grant programming and compliance.
- Grant Securing & Administration:
- Investigate, secure, and assist in submitting regional, state, and federal grants and managing grant-funded projects.
- Special Projects:
- Assume leadership and coordination responsibilities for special projects assigned by the Director.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Promote cooperative efforts with other jurisdictions and agencies, including leading the Northwest Mayors and Commissioners Coalition, Consortium of Cities, and Boulder County's Denver Regional Council of Government Subregional Forum.
- Personnel Management:
- Conduct employee evaluations, provide performance feedback, and recommend personnel actions such as hiring, discipline, and termination.
- Director Backup:
- Serve as necessary in the Director's role in their absence.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform related work and assume emergency assignments as required, including staff of the Emergency Support Function one in cases of disaster response.
