Boulder County's department of Community Services is seeking to hire a Bilingual Bond Commissioner. The Bond Commissioner Unit operates 7 days a week including holidays (with time compensation for working holidays) within the Boulder County Jail to assess individuals who have been arrested in Boulder County. This assessment process allows us to assess for criminal risk, mental health and substance use needs, and stability factors. This process is used to determine who is eligible to be released, and who will need to appear before the court. For those individuals who will appear before the court, a report is produced by this unit that includes assessment results, thorough criminal history review, and bond recommendations for the judge. Bond commissioners also attend court each day (M-F, Sunday) for the bond hearings.

This is a full-time, benefited position . The unit operates 7 days a week, 365 days. This position works 4 day/10 hour shift. The schedule is Thursday-Sunday 8:30am -6:30pm, but may vary based on training and shift availability. This position will work out of the Boulder County Jail located at 3200 Airport Road, Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt.

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.


Salary Range: $62,520.00 -$76,284.00 Annually  


Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • First Round Interviews: Week of April 14th

  • Language Proficiency Test: Week of April 21st

  • Reference Check: Week of April 21st


New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month(Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify).Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

  1. Screen and assess all eligible individuals brought to the Boulder County Jail.
    1. Complete a thorough review of criminal history using multiple criminal justice databases
    2. Interview individuals using effective interpersonal skills (collaboration, empathy, active listening)
    3. Complete standardized assessments using established guidelines and practices
  2. Determine eligibility of individuals to be released prior to seeing a judge
    1. Assess risk and protective factors when setting bonds
    2. Release low risk individuals when appropriate with least restrictive bond conditions
  3. Submit reports to the court making bond condition recommendations to the judge
    1. Assess risk and protective factors when recommending bond conditions
    2. Conditions recommended are the least restrictive necessary to mitigate public safety risk
  4. Complete CCIC certification process per Colorado Bureau of Investigation directives.
  5. Collaborate with and assist partner agencies such as Law Enforcement, jail staff, and the courts
  6. Any other duties that may be assigned by Bond Commissioner Supervisor and/or Administrator that are in keeping with and supporting the mission of the unit
  7. Performs related work, as required
  8. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 6 years of combined education and experience in social science, human services, criminal justice or related fields.
Additional related education may count towards required experience.

BILINGUAL SKILLS:

  • Applicants must demonstrate English and Spanish fluency at the time of the pre-employment screening process. Spanish language proficiency will be determined through standardized verbal demonstration. 
    • Additional compensation will be provided based on the use of bilingual skills.
