What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coroner Transport Specialist Part-Time position at Boulder County?
Boulder County Coroner's Office is seeking to hire a Coroner Transport Specialist. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office Transport Specialist duties will consist of transportation of decedents, coordinating logistics, and providing daily operations support for the Coroner’s Office, while also aiding operations division team members with daily operations. This position performs a variety of administrative, forensic, and analytical duties in the field of death investigation. This classification conducts technical, physically demanding forensic work supporting the Boulder County Coroner’s Office which will be performed in a variety of field settings within Boulder County.
This is an hourly, non-benefited position that will work up to 24 hours per week, Weekends only, including nights and holidays, and may be required to be on-call to help respond to emergencies. This position will work out of 5610 Flatiron Pkwy, Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $25.83 - $26.33 Hourly
Tentative Hiring Timeline:

- Operates a fleet vehicle while responding to scene locations to recover and prepare decedents for transport to the coroner’s office
- Picks up and delivers specimens, and/or records from laboratories, hospitals, care centers and physician offices
- Assists in the maintenance of fleet vehicles for daily operations including the overall cleanliness of the vehicle while monitoring supplies and equipment
- Intakes and processes decedents into the custody of the coroner’s office
- Collects and preserves physical and medical evidence
- Physically lifts, moves, and loads bodies including infants, children, and decedents that may be fragmented, burned and/or or in advanced stages of decomposition
- Collects fingerprints for identification purposes
- Performs limited scope diagnostic imaging (x-ray) for identification, documentation of trauma, and evidence location and collection
- Performs limited photography of decedents and death scenes
- Collects, inventories, documents, and protects the integrity of evidence and personal effects via chain of custody
- Assists in the release of decedents to authorized parties
- Performs a variety of case related data entry via case management system
- Participates in emergency preparedness and mass fatality response
- May be required to be on-call to help respond to emergencies
- Performs related work, as required
- May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent. Additional related education may count towards required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug test
- Applicants must pass a pre-employment polygraph examination
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
- Pre-employment assessment includes completing a basic person lift to gurney; and transporting vehicle gurney, loading and unloading using a mannequin
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Additional compensation will be provided based on the use of bilingual skills
- Two years experience working in a related field
- Ability to provide dignity and respect while caring for deceased persons in stressful situations and environments
- Knowledge of bio-medical hazards, blood borne pathogens and precautions
- Excellent customer service skills, along with initiative, empathy, attention to detail, flexibility, and patience
- Experience working in highly stressful situations and environments while also demonstrating professionalism and calmness
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is both physically and emotionally demanding work that requires employees to occasionally assist in raising or lowering objects with a minimum of 150 pounds
