The Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is hiring two term Forestry Resource Technicians to assist with our forestry data collection, planning, layout, and contract oversight. Selected applicants will work with the department’s Forestry Work Group, which is responsible for the sustainable forest management of approximately 30,000 acres of County land. We pride ourselves in the work we do and are eager to bring on new team members!
These are one-and-a-half-year term, salaried benefited positions, with an anticipated start date of late May and a duration of 1.5 years, with the possibility of extension up to three additional years. These positions will generally work 10-hour days, Tuesday through Friday, 7:00am – 5:30pm. These positions will work out of the Boulder County Parks & Open Space Building located at 5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, these positions are non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $62,520.00 - $76,284.00 Annually

Examples of Duties
- Conduct forest stand data collection and mapping.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of database records, GIS data, and resource inventories; and perform data quality control, analysis, and modeling.
- Prepare reports, management plans, and educational materials.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary workgroups and non-profit partners in development of forestry plans.
- Assist with public and internal meetings.
- Conduct forestry project layout and marking.
- Assist with contractor oversite and quality control.
- Perform related work, as required.
- May be reassigned during emergency situations.

- Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical
- Must be able to perform physical outdoor work, including lifting, carrying equipment, and hiking over rough terrain.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends when necessary.
- These positions are required to wear a uniform, which is provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in forestry or natural resources management
- Familiarity with Colorado Front Range forest ecology, tree identification, and associated insects and diseases
- Experience with forest data collection and associated metrics
- Ability to read maps and aerial photography, and self-navigate
- Experience in ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, Survey123, and Field Maps
- Experience with FVS or other forest modeling programs
- Experience writing resource planning documents and reports
- Professional demeanor and experience with listening to, and answering questions from the public
- Experience driving 4WD vehicles
- Previous chainsaw safety training and tree felling experience
- Current Red Card, and experience with prescribed or wildland fire
- A high attention to detail
- Capable of working independently with occasional guidance
