Boulder County Housing Authority(BCHA) is currently seeking to hire Maintenance Tech IIBCHA Facilities Maintenance Technician II is a journey-level classification. The BCHA Facilities Maintenance Technician II works under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and performs a variety of semi-skilled duties in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and facilities. All task are performed at the Boulder County Housing locations.

This is a full-time, benefited position, that will work Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm. This position report out of 1288 Alaska Avenue, Longmont CO, work sites may vary. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).  

 

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.


Hiring Salary Range: $56,664.00 - $69,198.00 Annually


Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: Week of February 10th

  • First Round Interviews: Week of February 17th

  • Second Round Interviews:  Week of February 24th

  • Reference Check: Week of February 24th

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

  1. Take ownership of assigned properties, think proactively, and take initiative to improve BCHA systems and equipment
  2. Properly troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance and repair work on properties and units, building systems, and structures, 
  3. Responsible for the maintenance of specific sites, routine maintenance, and inspections  
  4. Operate, maintain, and train others in the safe and proper use of appropriate hand tools, power tools, electrical test meters, and similar diagnostic tools, long-handled tools, bench grinder and presses, floor sanders, grounds keeping equipment, compressor, air hammer, high-pressure wash, line locator, loader/backhoe, trencher, skid loader, and County vehicles
  5. Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment as needed, including scheduling equipment for preventive maintenance
  6. Participate in 24-Hour Emergency Maintenance System
    1. Be on 24-hour call for seven days in a shop rotation
    2. Respond quickly and make dependable independent decisions for emergency maintenance requests for units and buildings that may involve safety, life-threatening, or security risk requests by residents, managers, fire, or police departments
  7. Plan work schedule to meet specified objectives and follow established procedures for tracking and record-keeping, including keeping a daily record of work performed and materials and equipment used on work orders and purchase orders
  8. Perform annual inspections, preventive maintenance and safety inspections on all units, buildings, and related heating and electrical systems, including testing fire detection and suppression systems, furnace and boiler operation, and the presence of carbon monoxide levels in systems
  9. Interact independently with residents and the public—including the elderly, disabled, and other special populations—using good communication, problem-solving, and customer relations skills at all times
  10. Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents; be responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment
  11. Wear proper PPE per BCHA and County policy, including but not limited to gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, Tyvek suits, knee pads, dust masks, respirators, and proper footwear 
  12. Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this job
  13. Teamwork and collaboration is required
  14. Performs related work as required
  15. May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of  a high school graduation or equivalent and two years of building maintenance experience.
Additional related education may count towards required experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Back & Upper Body (lifting):Frequently lift from floor to waist with one hand 20-40 lb. power tools, equipment, and supplies. Occasionally lift 100 lb. bags of ice melt with another employee (two-personlift) from chest height to floor or reverse. Hands/Arms: Occasional plumbing work necessitates working with large 25 lb. wrenches, which requires lifting from floor to waist height with two hands. Body Movement: Frequent bending, stooping, crawling, and working from ladders on heights from 4-10 ft. Frequently handle shovels; 20 lb. pry bars, and 8 lb. sledgehammers. Occasionally work with hands and arms reaching overhead.
