POSITION TITLE: GOLF COURSE STARTER

DEPARTMENT: GOLF PRO SHOP

REPORTS TO: HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL / GENERAL MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a fast-paced position. The Golf Starter position is one of the most visible employees of the facility. This position is tasked with providing the customers with service regarding tee times, tee time coordination, rules and policies and pace-of-play. This position is also responsible for assisting with accurate daily play totals and other duties as directed. Due to the nature of the position, the golf starter must be pleasant, but firm at the same time. Any refusal by a customer to follow rules must be reported to the golf shop. Do not be argumentative.

DAY TO DAY ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Operate the starter’s booth/shed in the highest professional manner.

· Provide welcoming “first contact” with each customer or groups of customers and ensure they have an enjoyable experience.

· Contact Ranger for players entering the course beyond the starting tee box.

· Two (2) players to a cart. NO exceptions. NO riders.

· Be in possession of the daily tee sheet and monitor for updates throughout the shift.

· Assure the orderly flow of play in accordance with the posted tee times.

· Rotate players as needed to ensure the flow of play.

o Pair groups and carts up - (a single w/threesomes, twosomes w/twosomes).

· Maintain an adequate supply of scorecards and pencils at the first tee if needed.

· Promote the facility programs, events and image to the customers of the facility at all times.

· Check with the golf shop for any unusual or special instructions for that day, such as cart paths only, 90 degrees ֯, outings, shotguns, league play, reverse tee etc.

· Make sure all equipment, specifically carts, are working correctly, if not report to pro shop.

· Keep work area and surrounding area clean at all times. Pick up debris that has missed trash receptacles.

· Call attention to the golf shop of any maintenance issues needing addressed or reported by players.

· If needed, be prepared for inclement weather with personal outerwear, i.e., raingear and/or windbreaker, etc.

· Be aware of bad weather procedures and communicate with golf shop during weather alerts as necessary.

· Post the weather conditions of play for the day.

· Assist other outside staff as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

· Organized and capable of working in a fast paced busy environment where priorities quickly change.

· The Starter position requires full attention during scheduled hours.

· Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.

· Must have excellent oral communication skills to both customers and Team Members.

· Must be able to clearly communicate customer needs to other Team Members.

· Self motivated with desire to promote the standards of the golf course for everyone’s enjoyment.

· Enthusiastic, outgoing attitude, service and customer focused attitude.

· Flexible availability including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

· Minimum Age: 16 yrs old

· A positive attitude while on the job is essential. Being combative or argumentative with players is not acceptable.

· While performing the duties of this job, the position is regularly required to lift and carry up to approximately 70 pounds.

· This position may be required to spend long hours on their feet. Approximately 6-8 hours.
