Summary:

Boulder Medical Center (BMC) is seeking new and experienced RNs to join our Allergy team! This position works full-time 40 hours per week Monday through Friday. Working out of the Boulder and Louisville, CO Allergy clinics this position will work a hybrid remote schedule. Candidates must be available to come onsite to act as a Clinic Resource during staffing shortages and / or for training purposes. Remote hybrid work schedules will be discussed in the interview with the Hiring Manager.

  • Day shift schedules are Monday through Friday. There are occasional voluntary four (4) hour shifts on Saturday mornings from 8 am - 12 pm for several primary clinics (Family Medicine and Pediatrics).
  • Experience working in both primary care and specialty care clinics.

Job Duties:

  • Works with providers, nurses and patients to resolve questions concerning medications, health education, and medical advice within skill level and scope of practice.
  • Works with providers, nurses, medical assistants and patients to assess the urgency of patient problems. Assists the patient by acquiring the appropriate appointment, as needed.
  • Records and maintains complete and accurate records of patient and physician communications regarding medical care according to standard medical record documentation requirements according to BMC Nursing Protocols.
  • Assists providers and team in meeting utilization goals by tracking and following up after ER visits, specialty consults, and diagnostic testing.
  • Triages any reactions according to the department emergency protocol and within the scope of practice.
  • Accepts phone calls and advises patients within scope of practice. Calls patients with test results and follow up care or instructions per provider order within department guidelines for skill level. Documents all call details in the electronic telephone call template. Tasks providers when needed to coordinate care for the patient.
  • Submits electronically/faxes new prescriptions and refill prescriptions according to provider orders. Records all prescription/refill information in the medical record according to standard requirements as stated in the BMC Nursing Protocols.
  • Specialty drug ordering, in-depth patient education, surgery scheduling and other specialty specific duties will be required based on department/specialty.
  • Teaches nursing procedures to patients and their families regarding specific out-patient medical care as ordered by the provider.
  • Assists providers and staff in other ways as assigned, including coverage of providers during staff shortages.

Required Experience:


Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to recognize and identify patient’s symptoms and use appropriate professional judgment in course of action.
  • Broad knowledge base of general nursing practice, knowledge of acute practice based on skill level, licensure and scope of practice.
  • Good history-taking skills, strong, competent computer skills; accurate and complete documentation skills; good time management and organizational skills.
  • Relate well and communicate with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Able to demonstrate self-direction in establishing priorities and working with little supervision.
  • Able to maintain high level of precision in judgment, accuracy of assessment, and skill in problem solving under stress based on skill level, licensure and scope of practice.

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program. Current RN licensure by the State of Colorado.

Previous Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ nursing experience in a medical office, clinic or hospital preferred.
  • Experience with adult and pediatric triage, preferred.

Salary Range:

  • $29.50 - $37.50/hour; depending on experience

Location:

  • This position will work out of the Boulder and Louisville, CO Allergy clinics with a hybrid remote schedule. Candidates must be available to come onsite to act as a Clinic Resource during staffing shortages and / or for training purposes.
