Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute/chronic medical problems and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population.
- Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests.
- Assists in providing pre-op and post-op care; writes appropriate orders, including prescription of medications, and treats injuries including giving injections and suturing wounds.
- Assists in diagnosing orthopedic problems, surgical procedures and makes clinical rounds accompanied by the physician.
- Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
- Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care; may coordinate referrals as needed.
- Reviews patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports.
- Documents patient information and care in medical record.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of an accredited PA program.
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
- State PA license and current CPR certification required.
- Minimum of one year as a PA, preferably in orthopedics; four years of prior healthcare experience is a plus.
