Schedule: 15-20 hours per pay period. Day shift - every Monday with some flexibility the remainder of the week
The Pharmacy Tech. assists the Pharmacists to maintain the par levels of the pharmacy medications and supplies to ensure quality health care to the community. The Pharmacy Tech. also packages (UD) and labels medications under the direction of the pharmacist and handles the billing.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Places orders to maintain the PAR levels of drugs using contracts for best pricing.
- Dates, stocks, and maintains pharmaceuticals.
- Posts receipts of pharmaceuticals in the Billing/Accounts Receivable system and pharmacy system, keeping them up-to-date by adding/removing drugs as necessary within a day turn-around period.
- Informs the pharmacist of needed additions and deletions by usage to the pharmacy formulary.
- Addresses patients, visitors and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner. Kind and helpful to all staff.
- Receives and places confidential information with courtesy, accuracy and respect at all times. Conscious of and practices confidentiality.
- Returns drugs as necessary (outdated, overstocked, etc.) and reconciles the receipts with the returned drug amounts.
- Keeps the drug file pricing current using drug invoices.
- Creates purchase orders for all supplies obtained for department use. Attaches purchase orders to invoices and gives to Materials Management in a timely manner.
- Posts charges of pharmaceuticals used within the facility that are not otherwise entered in Pyxis.
- Prepares ECF meds in All Ways (including packaging U/D, labeling & filing carts) prior to Pharmacist final check.
- Completes inventory at year end.
- Maintains equipment contracts. i.e., refrigerator, printers, computers, blister pack sealer.
- Orders all supplies needed for the pharmacy.
- Maintains pharmacy shelves – labeling and cleaning.
- Does special researching, i.e., drug pricing, cost charging.
- Prints Medication Administration Record for Extended Care Facility.
- Tears down cards returned from Extended Care Facility at end of month.
- Assists with Quality Assurance/Improvement reports as able and needed.
- Refills Acute Care Facility stock drugs so pharmacist can check.
- Runs special reports for other departments.
- Attends and keeps minutes for Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee quarterly meetings.
- Obtains pharmaceuticals from nearby resources if needed immediately.
Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or GED equivalence required. Minimum one(1) year experience in Health care or pharmaceutical preferred • Proficient Computer skills to work on Meditech 6.0, keyboard 40 wpm minimum and competent on Microsoft word office products, Excel, Word and Outlook.
