What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Educator II position at Bourbon County Health Department?
EDUCATION:EXPERIENCE:
- Responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to, assisting the Health Education team with leading the health improvement strategy for Bourbon County. This position includes: assisting with facilitation of coalition workgroups established by the Community Health Assessment that include health and safety priority areas that may relate to, but not limited to, mental health, substance use/drug overdose, safety, and chronic disease prevention; develop meeting agendas, minutes and other related materials for workgroups; assist with facilitating the strategic planning process to develop goals/objectives/activities for the workgroups; assist in the development of a 5-year Community Health Improvement Plan; monitor and report progress on Community Health Improvement Plan initiatives.
- Assist Health Education team with delivering presentations on programs/activities related to tobacco education, teen pregnancy/STI prevention, communicable disease prevention education and other health and safety priority areas to the schools and the general public
- Serve the Preparedness Coordinator. Duties include overseeing the preparedness program by preparing and ensure readiness of public health personnel to support local response to incidents of bioterrorism, infectious disease or other public health threats. Coordinate with local and regional emergency response partners to ensure awareness of Public Health Emergency operations plan. Attend monthly regional health care preparedness meetings. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, maintain operation plans and reports to support the public health response.
- Participate in workforce development and other internal planning processes; represent Bourbon County Health Department at health fairs and other community events; assist with grant writing and grant application process; work on policy development to improve the overall health of the community; perform other duties as assigned. Reports to the Public Health Director.

- Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
- Must have two (2) years of health related or education experience.

- Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in health or human services fields will substitute for experience required (2 years for Master’s & 1 year for Bachelor’s). A professional license in the health or human services fields will substitute for an additional year of experience.

- Provides services according to the guidelines set by the Core Clinical Service Guide/Administrative Reference (CCSG/AR), works with members of the community to establish a working relationship. Compiles statistical information for health program needs, gathers health information for the public relative to the specialized program, and distributes health education materials. Establishes working relations with the community and school systems to teach and present appropriate aspects of health education under limited supervision. Utilizes appropriate educational methods and materials, determines contracts with and writes public service announcements for newspaper, TV, and radio, participates as a team member, demonstrates a working level of understanding cultural competency and serves as working supervisor.
- Work typically is spent inside the office or in a community setting.
