SCHOOL NURSE
QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse, with interest in school and community health.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel
SUPERVISES: Not Applicable
JOB GOAL: Provide a comprehensive school health services program, which meets the health needs of individual pupils.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate all health screenings including vision, hearing, scoliosis, dental and lice and assure appropriate follow-up.
- Supervise and assess the completeness of medical examinations including preschool, kindergarten, athletes and employees.
- Establish and supervise first aid facilities for each school.
- Assist with parent health education through appropriate programs and home visits.
- Coordinate programs with the local health department and the University of Kentucky College of Nursing.
- Assist with the completion of accident reports.
- Coordinate and assist with the updating of cumulative health records.
- Coordinate first aid training and sports medicine clinics.
- Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in the schools, coordinating cleanliness and hygiene efforts during flu season and monitoring infectious conditions in the schools or community and advising the Superintendent.
- Provide consultation, direction and direct services to staff and students on unique physical impairments and infectious/contagious diseases such as: lice, scabies, fifth disease, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, osteogenesis imperfecta, care of catheterized pupils, etc.
- Assure compliance with laws and regulations related to the school health code.
- Advise on modifications of the school health curriculum to meet health needs of individual pupils.
- Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Director of Pupil Personnel.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work day to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
