Controller

A construction company in Ohio is seeking a Controller to join their growing team. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, managing the accounting team, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with senior leadership, oversee the annual budget process, and ensure the efficient operation of the accounting department while handling key responsibilities related to insurance management, financial analysis, and audit support. The successful candidate will be reliable, organized, and self-motivated, with a strong ability to mentor others and drive continuous improvement.

Controller Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including production reports and financial reporting
• Oversee month-end close process and ensure compliance with US GAAP
• Collaborate with President and COO to prepare and monitor the annual and departmental budgets
• Work with banks and bonding companies to report financial progress and project status
• Manage general liability and employee health insurance, understanding financial risks
• Maintain accounting policies and procedures and innovate processes to achieve department goals
• Collaborate with company leaders to ensure the accounting team evolves with business growth
  
  

Controller Requirements

• 5-7 years of accounting experience in the civil construction industry
• Strong understanding of WIP (Work in Progress)
• Experience with Word and Excel
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
• Ability to manage and mentor an accounting team
• Solid analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to drive results and continuous improvement
• Experience with ERP software
