Position Responsibilities

• Manage the produce department operations following all Bow Street Market policies and standard practices

• Develop the produce team to deliver an unmatched level of productivity and service

• Model exceptional customer service skills

• Treat all associates with fairness, dignity, and respect.

• Build positive relationships with customers, team members, and the community

• Ensure safety is the team’s top priority throughout every day

• Foster productive relationships with all vendors

• Provide recognition of accomplishments and offer constructive counseling when necessary

• Ensure associates are properly trained following Bow Street Market policies and procedures

• Know and embrace the company’s history and use it as a catalyst for growth

• Maintain excellent communication with the management team and all associates in the store.

• Use good judgment in the delegation, assignment, and follow-up required for the efficient performance of the department

• Ensure the safety of all food produced on site

• Develop extensive product knowledge and make recommendations for sales building opportunities; leverage Hannaford’s offerings in a manner that compliments Bow Street Market

• Ensure compliance with company security, safety, and food safety standards. Communicate any needed equipment repairs or maintenance work needed

• Keep work area free from debris and safety hazards

• Establish processes and procedures that are positive and productive for the company, associates, and customers.

• Ensure cleanliness and organization of cooler and storage areas

• Treat all store information as strictly confidential.

• Ensure the proper control of all store funds and company assets.

• Maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance and follow the Bow Street Market personal appearance policy always

• Perform cashier, receiving or office functions as needed.

• Assist in special projects and perform other functions as assigned

• Ensure profitable merchandising techniques and layouts are being executed

Skills And Experience

• Retail management experience with particular emphasis on produce, food safety, and receiving processes

• Proven ability to be a successful manager, leader, and developer of people

• High standards for self and others with a strong sense of integrity

• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills

• Active participation in and contribution to the community

• Understanding of produce operations and store merchandising techniques

• Ability to assess the causes of operational issues and develop strategies to address them (shrink, payroll, margin, etc.).

• Creative problem solving; ability to troubleshoot and negotiate for win / win solutions.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, shift priorities, delegate appropriately, and follow up to ensure tasks are completed on or before schedule.

• Understanding of business information systems, computer databases, and web applications.

• Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and the technical requirements of the job.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. An understanding of retail store produce, floral, and store operations required. Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions – 18 years old. Demonstrated ability to learn tasks associated with the position, and the technical requirements of the job. Ability to develop individuals and a team to deliver exceptional levels of service. Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform the job functions. Servsafe Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform the job functions.

• Stand and walk 100% of the time.

• Lift up to 50 lbs. 80% of the time and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.

• Reach to shoulder level or above on occasion while lifting 30 lbs.

• Frequent bending, reaching, grasping, and lifting produce items at or above waist level.

• Tolerate working in cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.

• Use hands to operate controls, feel objects and use tools to open and prepare products.

• Handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning materials, packaging materials, and food products.

• Meet volume activity standards established for the department.
