The Office of Annual Giving at Bowdoin College seeks a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the position of Assistant Director of Family Giving & Engagement within the Division of Development & Alumni Relations (DAR). This role is essential in supporting the Office of Annual Giving’s goal to inspire giving at all levels from more than 10,000 alumni, families, students, and friends of the College totaling more than $13 million each year.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Annual Giving, Director of Family Giving & Engagement, the Assistant Director facilitates relationships between the College and Bowdoin families through regular communication, in-person and virtual meetings, and staffing events on and off campus throughout the year. This role collaborates to create and implement a fundraising strategy for families that builds awareness of the Parents Fund through education and well-crafted solicitation messages, as well as through volunteer recruitment, management, and stewardship. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills. They should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
In addition, this position has the responsibility of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding these prospects and securing annual gifts from unassigned, unmanaged, and released families.
Education/Skills Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience required.
The incumbent must be a self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills and well-developed computer, spreadsheet, word processing, and database skills. They must possess a demonstrated capacity to develop, organize, and manage programs; ability to work independently and collaboratively; willingness to travel; and strong organizational and analytical skills.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
1-3 years related experience required.
The Assistant Director should be comfortable working with diverse audiences and be comfortable soliciting, training, leading, and guiding alumni volunteers. They must possess solid interpersonal skills; the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment; and work well under pressure while handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. Creativity and innovation are important skills in this work, and the Assistant Director should be comfortable in a fast-paced, result-driven environment. A commitment to and respect for the contributions of volunteers is a must. Previous experience working in fundraising, sales, and/or event planning is a plus. They should be goal-oriented, have a positive attitude, and be a driven and energetic team player.

Standard Work Days and Hours
This is an exempt, full-time position requiring the time necessary to satisfactorily complete job requirements. Office hours are primarily Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ability and willingness to travel as well as flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed is required.
This position is hybrid-eligible, following an adaptation period, for qualified candidates residing in Maine; with the expectation of 3 days per week required in the office.
COMPENSATION
- The hiring range for this position is expected to be: $65,000 – $70,000
