What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activity Coordinator position at Bowen Health?
Coordinates activities and opportunities for patients in a psychiatric hospital to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes about meaningful leisure involvement and experiences. The position will oversee a program that is designed to restore and maintain optimal levels of physical and psychosocial functioning. Services could include but are not limited to educational, occupational, recreational, physical, art, music, speech therapy and/or vocational rehabilitation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain a schedule of organized groups and activities and ensure schedule is implemented.
- Facilitate majority of group activities scheduled daily.
- Ensure documentation of all group activities is adequate and completed on day of service.
- Develop activities that are meaningful and assist patients restore physical and psychosocial skills.
- Participate in the Interdisciplinary Team and contribute to the Treatment Planning process.
- Meet with patients one-on-one to utilize evidence-based practices to address treatment goals.
- Provide education to the patient's family or caregivers as needed.
- Re-evaluate patient progress daily and make adjustments to the program as necessary.

- Ability to develop programming for diverse needs across an Inpatient population.
- An understanding of the impact of mental illness on an individual's ability to function independently.
- Comfort working with individuals with serious mental illness and supporting the treatment team during a behavioral health emergency.
- Present self with professionalism at all times.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or another related field that can accomplish the position duties.
- Certificate or Professional License: Registered Occupational Therapist, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or similar certification.
- Experience: Prefer two (2) years in a mental health setting.
- Valid driver’s license and active liability insurance.
- Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
