What are the responsibilities and job description for the VDC Engineer position at Bowen?
SUMMARY:
The primary duties of the VDC (Virtual Design & Construction) Engineer requires a highly energetic, detail oriented individual who will assist the Bid Manager(s), Project Manager(s), and Superintendent(s) with the creation, review, and editing of BIM/VDC content for all aspects of major design, design/build and construction management projects. The VDC Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
· Development of BIM information for use with BEC Operations and Pre-Construction teams
· Communicate effectively at every level of the Project Team
· Facilitate BIM coordination meetings with both internal and external teams
· Assist design partners with BIM development when necessary
· Develop conceptual renderings to assist with visualization of project sites
· Perform laser scanning for projects as needed
· Grow the BEC Controls program capabilities to meet the company’s needs for today and tomorrow
· Maintain Part 107 Drone Pilot Certification
· Assist in management and maintenance of drone equipment
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Support Pre-Construction and Estimating with conceptual renderings through early phases of design-build projects
· Create detailed models to assist project teams with visualization, clash detection, pipe routing, and coordination
· Perform laser scans, process the data (register), review and work with point clouds in various software
· Coordinate BIM and point cloud data to review constructability, route piping and ductwork, confirm equipment locations, etc.
· Assist with coordination of BIM efforts between design partners, subcontractors, and BEC Project Management
· Develop 4D schedules
· Prepare for and perform drone flights
· Complete necessary notices/waivers prior to drone flights
· Process drone flight data and provide project teams the required information
· Stay up to date on industry VDC/technology trends through professional networks, conferences, research, etc.
· Assist Pre-Construction teams evaluating cost of BIM work on projects
· Develop BIM specifications for subcontractors as required
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
· A four year degree in Construction Engineering and Technology, Civil Engineering or related field of study
· Experience with BIM related software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Navisworks, Recap, etc.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and listening skills
· Be willing to help in other areas of the business during slow times
· Ability to travel and work at job site locations
