Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Science Engineer to join our team at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG). The successful candidate will support the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in developing cutting-edge materials and technologies.
The primary responsibilities of this role include:
- Preparing metallic powders for consolidation using various techniques such as hot isostatic press (HIP), equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE), and spark plasma sintering (SPS).
- Operating and maintaining TIG, MIG, and gas welding systems, as well as HIP, ECAE, and SPS systems to achieve desired microstructure evolution and material properties.
- Conducting post-processing annealing treatments to optimize material properties.
- Communicating clearly and proactively with team members, following all safety protocols, and contributing to the development of quality assurance protocols.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An Associate's degree in engineering technology, materials science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in welding using TIG, MIG, and gas welding systems.
- Experience with high-temperature furnaces.
- Proficient use of Office 365 applications for data entry, documentation, and basic data analysis.
- Strong communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- The ability to work in a team environment.
- Maintenance of certification/license to operate Bowhead and Government vehicles.
