Job Overview
UMIAQ Environmental is seeking residents in North Slope communities to join an on-call spill technician team. The team will assist in oil spill clean-up as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Provide general land-based oil spill response labor or equipment operations support.
- Participate in spill response drills and exercises to maintain clients' spill response compliance.
- Take pictures of spills, help determine the type of response needed, and inventory spill conexes monthly.
- Follow all UIC and client safety policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Ability to learn oil spill response tactics for the Arctic environment.
- Flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER course completion and annual 8-hour refresher course.
- English language reading and writing skills.
Physical Demands:
- Twisting/turning upper and lower body.
- Climbing ladders and stairwells.
- Working at heights.
- Lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
Environmental Conditions:
- Cramped, confined spaces.
- Fog, dark, and visibility-limiting conditions.
- Fuels, solvents, cleaners, dust, fumes, smoke, and gases exposure.
- Irregular working hours.
- Arctic environment with low temperatures, high wind, icing, and moisture.
Compensation:
$25/hour for training and $30/hour for spill response.
