Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support a NASA-funded hydroponics and aquaponics project at Bowie State University. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Osano, leading research activities in plant metabolomics and endophyte research.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and conduct plant metabolomics and hydroponics/aquaponics research activities with undergraduate researchers.
• Evaluate the metabolome and functional traits of kale/plants grown hydroponically under microgravity environment.
• Elucidate how simulated microgravity affects photosynthetic efficiency of kale plants in hydroponically grown systems compared with soil systems.
• Conduct endophyte research, including preparing culture media for cultivation of endophytes.
• Develop HPTLC-MS and HPTLC methods for analyzing compositional variability of plant samples.
• Collect and process plant samples from around the world.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
• Compile technical reports for publication of results in peer-reviewed journals.
