Deliver high quality dry utility planning, design, and construction projects that meet established financial and customer satisfaction goals as well as all deadlines.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
- Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Assist in managing people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
- Work with senior level engineers, clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on moderately complex project issues.
- Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
- Assist with managing and overseeing the planning and completion of dry utility design and construction projects in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
- Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets for each major element of work and deliverable items.
- Assist with managing the daily activities of all utilities on assigned projects (feasibility phase through construction phase).
- Develop, maintain, and review design and construction documentation and reports.
- Coordinate with other staff and drafting divisions, developing requirements for each level of personnel on the project.
- Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
- Monitor project work toward budget and schedule goals.
- Complete necessary internal and external customer status updates.
- Responsible for coordinating and attending design and construction progress meetings with staff, contractors, architects, and/or engineers. Address/answer questions and mentors project staff daily.
- Review design documents and provide feedback and support during the design and planning process.
- Participate in presentations to the client.
- Track pre- and post-construction deliverables. Work with other Project Managers to coordinate site inspections.
- Work with designers and contractors to resolve issues.
- Assist in coordinating activities with other divisions, utility companies, engineers, contractors, and project schedules to achieve on-time service at job sites.
- Ensure accurate records and documents are maintained.
- Review plans and reports for accuracy and quality.
- Monitor and ensure project QA/QC standards are adhered to.
- May conduct field observation visits to accurately document existing field conditions.
- Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget under direction of a senior engineer and project manager.
- Review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals). '
- Prepare reports, narratives, development applications, submittal documents, and response letters.
- Perform plan reviews and field observations, maintain accurate and complete records, and apply engineering standards, codes, and other requirements and situations.
- Possess working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.

- Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering or equivalent work experience managing a variety of construction, utility, or civil engineering projects.
- Five or more (5 ) years of design experience in the AEC industry.
- Ability to perform technical plan reviews and field inspections, to maintain accurate and complete records, and to apply engineering standards, codes, and other requirements to various situations.
- Previous experience with utility companies preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction principles and practices.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D or similar drafting/3D modeling software, and/or PDF software such as Adobe or BlueBeam.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Projects) and various construction project management software.
- Experience researching zoning, development standards, development review processes, compliance matters, regulations, and standards.
- Ability to multi-task and coordinate on multiple projects, with multiple clients and sub-consultants.
- Primarily indoor professional office environment, which can consist of possible bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
- Mobility around an office environment.
- Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
