Position Overview
The Supervisor, Calibration Section is responsible for the daily operation of the Analytical Services Calibration Laboratory through effective coordination of personnel, instrumentation, and fiscal resources. Responsibilities include the timely calibration of equipment for internal laboratories as well as the development and maintenance of the external customer base needed to meet fiscal goals of the division calibration business. The supervisor will assist in the selection and development of staff necessary to meet departmental goals for both internal and external customers. Customer service for the calibration laboratory is the responsibility of the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide the leadership required to meet fiscal calibration laboratory goals of the division.
- Provide internal and external client consultations and recommendations for calibration methods and procedures.
- Help develop and establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for calibration and test methods.
- Provide support for computerized quality systems including data keeping, client histories, and instrument recall.
- Support marketing plan goals of the division.
- Provide and maintain client interface to promote the sales of division services.
- Maintain membership and attend meetings and seminars of various professional societies.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree in a related discipline or comparable work experience.
- Five or more year’s leadership experience preferred in a calibration, metrology, or testing laboratory that performed a wide variety of environmental, physical, chemical, or other quantitative analyses.
- Experience in customer service and how to negotiate and manage people with soft skills is required
- Experience negotiating prices and terms for services or goods.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient with Windows based PC systems, including data base management, MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- A broad knowledge of metrology, calibration, and general laboratory procedures.
- Familiarity with LIMS, FLUKE software in particular, is an advantage
Reporting Relationships
- Reports to the Manager of Analytical Services Laboratories or other designated position.
Physical Requirements
Physical Ability
· Stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, climbing, and lift minimum of 30 pounds.
· Ability to drive to project sites.
Visual Ability
· Visual accommodation necessary for reading specifications, plans, reports, and materials necessary to perform functions of job.
Hearing Ability
· Must be able to make and receive phone calls.
Work Conditions
· Combination of standard office, laboratory environment and various project sites.
