Landfill Engineer
Position Overview
This employee will provide landfill design, permitting, compliance and construction documentations services associated with Construction and Demolition Debris, Solid Waste, Residual Waste and Hazardous Waste facilities. The employee will also provide general civil and environmental engineering consulting services (or a combination thereof) for a wide variety of BMI clients under the supervision of the Dayton Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering and Environmental Services division. This employee may also provide field engineering, sampling and testing services as coordinated with the Engineering and Environmental Services Division and Construction Services Division.
Key Responsibilities - Operations / Essential Work Functions
- Landfill design, permitting and compliance support services.
- Preparation of annual license applications, modifications, exemptions, and construction documentation reports for various landfill facilities
- Aerial mapping using Drone technology and GPS surveying
- Preparation of NPDES permits and associated reporting
- Preparation of air permits and associated reporting
- Interface with government agencies, i.e. OEPA, US Army Corps of Engineers, ODNR, Various health departments, etc.
- Prepare Environmental Permit applications for 401 Water Quality Certifications, 404 USACE permits, and various engineering programs including slope stability, hydrology, and hydraulics applications.
- Prepare design calculations for landfills, surface water drainage structures, slope stability, leachate generation and other relevant calculations
- Preparation of proposals, invoicing and general project management
Staff Management
No direct management; however, this employee must work together with other BMI staff to achieve project deadlines.
Client Retention & Business Development
The employee will be responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships. The employee will be responsible for business develop relative to the growth of landfill services and related market sectors. Must be an active member of professional organizations that support client retention and business development.
Project Management
Project management responsibilities associated with the various landfill projects including but not limited to, development of scope of work, quote preparation, project initiation, management and completion of the desired deliverable.
Financial Management
This employee will need to track project budgets and initiate change orders for additional services as necessary. Other responsibilities are dependent upon experience.
