Position Overview
On the job training will be provided for this entry-level position.
This position supports the Construction Materials and Geotechnical Laboratories by performing tests on soil, rock, or concrete samples for engineering/construction applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Testing of soil, aggregate, or concrete
- Perform data calculations
- Other duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager and/or Assistant Laboratory Manager
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience in a laboratory setting is preferred but not required
Skills and Abilities
- Need to work well as a team member
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions for test method compliance and project management direction
- Able to multitask when needed
- Flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meeting deadlines
- Basic math and computer skills required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Job Type
- Full-time, M-F 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Overtime is sometimes required
Physical Requirements
Physical Ability
- Stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, bending, crawling, climbing; lift minimum of 80 pounds
Visual Ability
- Visual accommodation necessary for reading instructions/materials necessary to perform functions of job
Hearing Ability
- Ability to monitor sounds for changes in machine function
Work Conditions
- Work exposes the employee to laboratory testing devices, dust, soil and other external environment factors
