Description
This individual is responsible for banding all bales of corrugated product that go through the strapping unit.
Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions)
- Strap units per the factory ticket specs; maintain the appearance of all bales
- Prep top and bottom cover sheets per company specifications
- Check load tags, number of load tags and position tags to specifications on factory ticket
- Band all new items to meet customer specifications; ensure that Production Supervisor signs off on the strapping appearance of all new items and items for customers on alert
- Ensure that the Quality department signs off on the strapping appearance of all new items and items for customers on alert
- Change out strapping on machine as needed
- Train other employees to run the Bander
- Must monitor performance in relation to established goals; ensure the crew remains focused on meeting goals
- Must ensure accurate reporting in the computer system on all jobs
- Perform preventative maintenance of the machinery and communicate any issues to supervisor or maintenance
- Follow first piece inspection process to ensure that production meets customer specifications
- Monitor quality while strapping bales by inspecting units
- Troubleshoot quality and production issues
- Report safety, quality, and equipment issues to supervisor
- Ensure good housekeeping in the banding area and in surrounding areas on the production floor
- Maintain positive and productive communications with all relationships
- Must follow all company policies and procedures
- Must be trained on Box-Board Products, Inc. Employee Practices for AIB Compliance (a.k.a. Good Manufacturing Practices or G.M.P.’s); must follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (G.M.P.’s)

3.1 Raw or Finished Materials
- Corrugated board, strapping
3.2 Tools and Machines Used
- Tape measure, utility knife, hand tools, air hose, computer, calculator, gloves and PPE
3.2 Hazards
- Moving mechanical parts; wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; vibration; loud noise; dust
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to understand and read measurements using a tape measure; use and understand all other measuring tools
- At least 2 years of experience in the corrugated or packaging industry preferred
- Must be able to read and understand English instructions on company production orders
- Must be able to communicate with all crew members and supervisors
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; and/or vibration. The noise level is the work environment is usually loud.
