General Summary of Responsibilities:
The LPN strives for quality outcomes and innovative practice in accordance with the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act and BBGH policies. The LPN provides care in a collaborative manner with other disciplines to ensure optimal, individualized patient care and outcomes.
LPN's practice nursing dependently under the direction of registered nurses or licensed medical practitioners through the application of the nursing process and the execution of diagnostic or therapeutic regimens prescribed by licensed medical practitioners. LPN practice includes the assumption of responsibilities and accountabilities for the performance of acts within their educational background and utilizing procedures leading to predictable outcomes. The administration and management of nursing by LPN's includes directing and assigning nursing interventions that may be performed by others.
The LPN has a responsibility to act as educator to their peers, patients, and their families. All aspects of the LPN's performance supports service excellence and a healing environment. The LPN identifies and communicates needed unit resources or equipment to be included in budgets.

Medical Assistant - Provides assistance to the overall patient experience by providing assistance to the medical providers and nursing staff. Assists medical providers with greeting, rooming, and scheduling patient for various diagnosis exams and consults as required to provide continuum of patient care. Requires verbal skills to communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, providers, various staff members and the general public to provide the highest quality of time.
The C.M.A. will also include preparing patients for examinations, taking medical histories, and assisting the physician during the examination. As well as explaining medical procedures to patients, calling in prescriptions to pharmacies, collecting laboratory specimens, and sterilizing medical instruments. He/she may also collect laboratory specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture to aid in the assessment of a patient's medical condition. They must have the capability to conduct all aspects of waived testing and procedure, method evaluation, maintenance of quality management and safety programs, as well as interpret the technical acceptability of test results. C.M.A. must be able to approach, communicate and positively interact with patients and other health care professionals while performing their duties, which may also involve stressful situations. Strict adherence to safety and infection control procedures is required.
Education:
Required: Graduate from an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Program
High School graduate or equivalent
Experience:
Required: Must be computer-literate.
Preferred: Minimum of one year healthcare experience; Experience with current facility medical record software.
License/Certifications:
Required:
Nebraska LPN license
BLS for healthcare workers
or
Nebraska Medication Aide License.
Certification for Medical Assistant certificate
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
